Alanis
is intriguing, articulate, at times tongue-in-cheek, and gutsy. She has a reputation for
singing about women scorned, although there's much more to this
artist. By the age of 21, Alanis established her "musical self"
internationally with her breakthrough album, Jagged Little
Pill. The lyrics for this album were written entirely by
Alanis.
The Gemini
Sun-Scorpio Moon persona is as intelligent as they come. Geminis
always look for answers, although they often have a casual
interest in the world around them. Add Lunar Scorpio, and you have
a natural psychologist, bent on finding meaning and never afraid
to rock the boat. The Gemini gift of communication and the Scorpio
soul vision combine in Alanis eloquently (although the
Gemini-Scorpio combination is an unusual one). This combination
makes her both versatile and passionate at once. She can use words
to paint pictures, she possesses a sharp wit, and being

strong Mercury-Saturn aspects in the charts of very intelligent
people. Mercury conjunct Saturn suggests a profound mind; in
Cancer, there can be a tendency to be remorseful and somewhat
gloomy. However, Alanis' Mercury is very active: it also trines
her Moon, sextiles Venus, and squares Pluto. It forms minor
aspects to the angles: Mercury quintiles her Midheaven (and
Chiron) and semi-sextiles her Ascendant. What does this all mean?
Mercury trine her Scorpio Moon gives her talent in verbalizing
emotions, combining with her Mercury conjunct Saturn, an aspect
often found in charts of people who are especially adept at
writing. The quintile aspect is one of genius and talent, so it's
no surprise that Mercury (expression) and the Midheaven
(career/reputation) are tied together with the quintile.
Chiron is in
the Mercury-quintile-Midheaven mix as well, and is worth
mentioning. Chiron is the Wounded Healer, and is found at
the very top of Alanis' chart. Any fan of her lyrics, perhaps
women in particular, will find meaning in this position! By
sharing her "wounds" (Chiron) through her music, Alanis
shares a special relationship with her public (Midheaven=public).
Chiron, as a wounded healer, first must face issues of low
self-worth and feelings of inadequacy and learn to rise above
these issues. Because the wound goes deep, and the person involved
works hard to overcome the wound, healing powers are potent. I am
particularly fond of the song, Spineless, which illustrates this
