Moon Ascendant AspectsA planet in conjunction to the Ascendant always takes on powerful proportions in the native's life and personality. A distinction is made between planets in the twelfth house in conjunction to the Ascendant, and planets in the first house in conjunction to the Ascendant. When found in the first house, that planet feels free to express itself. When behind the Ascendant in the twelfth house, that planet is just as powerful, but it has problems expressing itself in a direct and uninhibited manner.
They can easily project confusing signals to others. On one hand, their attachment to the home and family, as well as the projection of a somewhat dependent or needy personality, gives off the impression that they are seeking warm attachments with others. On the other, they have an unmistakable streak of independence and can hold people at arm's length when they get too close. "Moody" is the best way to sum it up. Even their physical appearance is notably changeable. Women with this position tend to retain water at different stages in their cycle. Rounded faces are common in both men and women. The desire to nurture can be very prominently projected, or the desire to be cared for. Usually, it's both, and others don't always know what to expect. There can be emotional displays quite frequently. If the Moon is in the twelfth house and conjunct the Ascendant, the emotional ups and downs are all there, but they lie below the surface much of the time. The desire to express their emotions is about as powerful as their desire to keep them hidden! The need for an outlet for emotional expression is extremely vital, and can often be found in the written word (many writers have this position). These people possess colorful imaginations, and respond instantly to pulls at the heart strings as well as emotionally evocative imagery, music, and situations. Those with the Moon in the twelfth house may be adept at hiding their emotional responses, while those with the Moon out in the open will have a hard time keeping it under wraps (if they even care to!). At the very least, their expressive faces reveal many of the moods that are going on inside. People with a twelfth house Moon conjunct the Ascendant are often quite reclusive yet have a strong need to express their emotional, caring, and humanitarian natures in some way, especially in a behind-the-scenes manner. Both twelfth-house and first-house Moon-Ascendant natives often express a strong attachment to the family and home. People with Moon conjunct the Ascendant are quite shy as children--sometimes painfully so. First-house Moon-Ascendant people are more apt to get over that shyness, especially if they have found a constructive channel (or a few!) for expressing their spilling-over emotions. Twelfth-house Moon-Ascendant people often remain shy much of their lives, although they do become less so with age—or at least they "manage" their shyness more effectively as the years go by. Many Moon-Ascendant people blush easilyanother expression of emotions that are difficult to hide! They often project a sweet, perhaps even innocent, image—especially the women—and smile very readily. Katie Holmes and Shari Lewis are good examples of Moon conjunct the Ascendant. Alternate, short interpretations: *You are impressionable, sympathetic, and responsive to the emotional tone and atmosphere around you. You harmonize, blend, and adapt yourself to other people. Often you are rather quiet, just listening and feeling. You are subtle and know when to keep silent and wait. You act instinctively, sensing and intuiting when the time is right for action. +You are never more at home than when entertaining and carrying on in front of a group. You wear your heart on your sleeve, and your emotional life is an open book for all to read. Others sense an interest in their welfare when they meet you. Some Famous People with the Moon conjunct the Ascendant: Lucille Ball (Moon in Capricorn conjunct Asc in the first house); Meredith Baxter (Moon in Leo conjunct Asc from the twelfth house); Charles Bronson (Moon in Sagittarius conjunct a Capricorn Ascendant from the twelfth house); Billy Crystal (Moon in Taurus conjunct the Asc in the first house); Morgan Fairchild (Moon in Leo conjunct the Asc from the twelfth); Farrah Fawcett (Moon in Cancer conjunct the Asc from the first house); Katie Holmes (Moon in Leo conjunct the Asc from the twelfth house); Lauren Hutton (Moon in Leo conjunct a Cancer Ascendant from the first house); Shari Lewis (Moon in Libra conjunct the Ascendant from the first); Paul Lynde (Moon in Leo conjunct a Cancer Ascendant from the first); Julianne Moore (Moon in Gemini conjunct the Ascendant from the twelfth); Dolly Parton (Moon in Virgo conjunct the Ascendant from the twelfth); Erich Segal (author of "Love Story" - Moon in Libra conjunct the Ascendant from the first); Sigourney Weaver (Moon in Taurus conjunct the Ascendant from the first).
Alternate, short interpretation: +Your close ties with home and family, plus your career interest, may cut into your social life and personal charm. Others may find you somewhat preoccupied and lacking in the social graces. You may feel some regret or tension from this situation.
^With your Moon in trine aspect to your Ascendant you can have good feelings about yourself and your needs. This translates into a projection of confidence, and others may trust you more readily. Your awareness of your own needs makes it easier to create a sense of safety and security in the world, and your guidance and support of others can help them accomplish similar goals. You may also find it easier to embrace your womanliness - the power of being a woman looks great on you! The trine aspect is the more dynamic of the two harmonious aspects. Those with the sextile can call upon these traits when needed, and those with the trine between the Moon and the Ascendant have incorporated the traits of the aspect into their personalities, expressing them naturally and consistently. Alternate, short interpretation: +Everything seems to conspire to put you in the limelight. You always come off well in a group and manage to get your ideas across. Some Famous People with Moon in Harmonious Aspect to the Ascendant: Sextiles - Trines - Denzel Washington.
^Your Moon is in opposition to your Ascendant, which can indicate that you have conflicts between what you need for yourself and what others demand or need from you. You may also place too much emphasis on living your life based upon taking care of others, and may feel emotionally drained as a result. Part of the undercurrent of this energy comes from wanting to be connected or needing a partner. This is perfectly okay as long as you create relationships in which your needs and desires count, too. But watch for a tendency for things to get one-sided, and remember to give yourself ample opportunities to fulfill your own needs. Alternate, short interpretation: +Your love of groups and the social scene may find you less concerned about you as a person and more interested in relationships of all kinds. Others find you very unselfish and open to sharing and cooperation. Back to Planetary Aspects Back to Moon article
