Daily Trends

A Last Quarter Moon occurs on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014, at 3:52 AM EDT.

Tuesday morning, the Last Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Taurus squares the Moon in Aquarius. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week's Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us--and what doesn't--in preparation for next week's New Moon, when something new is born once again. This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It's time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon on March 30th. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?

This phase of the Moon occurs at 2 degrees and 6 minutes of Aquarius square the Sun at 2 degrees and 6 minutes of Taurus, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 0 to 4 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)

The Sun is in Taurus; Mercury is in Aries until April 23rd, when it enters Taurus; Venus is in Pisces; Mars is in Libra.

The Sun is in Taurus from April 19/20-May 20. In Taurus, the Sun is methodical, sensual, and receptive. The Sun in Taurus is most active when it is defending or resisting things! As the Sun moves through Taurus when plants take root, our determination and security needs are strong. Taurus is loyal to all that is familiar, and values longevity. The shadow side of Taurus is possessiveness and bullheadedness.

Mercury is in Aries April 7-23. When Mercury is in Aries, we are less concerned with objective viewpoints and explanations, and more concerned with reaching a decision...quickly! Our thoughts and ideas are pioneering, and we tend to speak more spontaneously and directly with the planet of communication in bold and assertive Aries.

Mercury is in Taurus April 23-May 7. When Mercury is in Taurus, our thinking is down to earth, solid, and grounded. Common sense reigns over more fanciful thinking. We communicate more deliberately under this influence, and our minds are oriented to the world of the five senses. We prefer the tried and true rather than new ways of thinking. Attention to one thing at a time can simplify our lives, but we may be in danger of narrow, overly conservative, or rigid thinking.

Venus is in Pisces April 5-May 2. Pisces never sees the world in black-and-white terms. Rather, Pisces sees all the colors of the rainbow. With the goddess of love in Pisces, our love is all-embracing, we are able to forgive and understand, we are seducible and seductive, and we show compassion to our partners. Venus in Pisces is tender and affectionate, although hard to reach nevertheless, as there is a longing for something that is hard to define and hard to satisfy. Borders and boundaries blur under Venus in Pisces. The shadow side of this position is allowing ourselves to be victimized or deluded, as well as evasiveness.

Mars is in Libra from December 7-July 25, 2014. We tend to use our charm as a means to an end under the influence of this cycle. Because we can see many different sides to an issue, we can be vacillating and indecisive about how to act. We don't want to be the "bad guy", and rarely resort to force. Instead, we attempt to win arguments with style. We are indirect in approach and inclined towards engaging in mental debates, yet we also attempt to make the opposition comfortable! Passive-aggressiveness is the shadow side of this energy.

Saturn entered Scorpio on October 5, 2012 and will transit the sign until 2015. Read about Saturn's transit through Scorpio here.

Jupiter is in Cancer from June 25th, 2013, to July 16, 2014. Read about Jupiter's transit through Cancer here.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Mars is Retrograde in the sign of Libra from March 1 to May 19, 2014.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Pisces from April 5-May 2. Like Aquarius, Pisces love is universal. However, Pisces draws no bounds in love. With Venus in Pisces, we have compassion (and perhaps attraction) for those who are left out, overlooked, or victimized. We are self-sacrificing, and we have a hard time setting up borders. The walls go down, we have a hard time saying no (especially if our compassion is engaged), but we are also prone to avoiding all that makes us feel uncomfortable. Wishful thinking is one expression of Venus in Pisces. We can too easily believe what we want to believe. People can be hard to pin down, and love is hard to define under this influence.

This week: Venus' alignment with Chiron is typically very strong for close relationships, although there is much tension in the air due to a T-square between Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto on the same day (the 20th) so that there can be some complications. We are open to letting love in, but there may be some freedom issues to contend with now. A trine between Venus and Saturn on Thursday and Friday is a little cool, but also binding and stabilizing. We are reserved in our expressions of affection, but we are also quite sincere and responsible.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Pisces April 5-May 2. A martyr complex, a love for the underdog, a search for your soul mate: such are the experiences associated with the new cycle you're now just beginning. A yen for soul-stirring romance, a weakness for the weak, and a tendency to idealize people and relationships ... very aesthetic, very other-worldly.
Venus conjunct Chiron April 20. Healing energy is brought to love relationships, and a new cycle begins. A commitment-friendly transit. Love can heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings, and more willing to act upon them. This is a good time to make a resolution to repair, heal, and improve relationships.
Venus trine Saturn April 24-25. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. A new sense of realism and maturity in existing partnerships. Relationships begun under this influence possess a distinctly practical theme, almost as if the partnership is a business endeavor, and have much potential to last.
Venus parallel Mars April 27-29. Favors romantic and sexual relationships. Intense passions.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Monday, April 21st, from 7:22 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mercury), until the Moon enters Aquarius the next day, Tuesday, April 22nd, at 12:19 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Wednesday, April 23rd, from 12:12 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Thursday, April 24th, at 2:56 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Friday, April 25th, from 4:04 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Venus), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Saturday, April 26th, at 6:02 AM EDT.

Void of Course Moon Table for April 2014:

Timing with the Moon - Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives

The Moon is waning this week - a period that is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).

According to the principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs from Thursday, April 24th, at approximately 3 AM EDT, until Friday, April 25th, at approximately 4 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Pisces.

This Week's Calendar

JupitersquareUranus Jupiter square Uranus. We need to be willing to make changes in our lives now, or change will be forced upon us. This is a rebellious, restless influence--one in which we should avoid making changes just for the sake of making changes. We might take risks (perhaps foolish ones) for the sake of freedom. This is not a good time for financial speculation or travel. This is a time during which we can open ourselves up to new ways of thinking. However, we could also too easily avoid taking responsibility for things that truly matter.

VenusconjunctChiron Venus conjunct Chiron. We have the chance to heal our personal relationships now, as we are more open to intimacy and commitment, as well as to learning from one another. We more easily see beauty in human weaknesses, and are less inclined to see fault, or to concern ourselves with fault. It's a strong time for building trust in relationships, and for seeing potential in one another, although the process might feel painful! Insecurities are revealed and, ideally, cleansed. A new cycle of healing in love begins now.

JupiterPluto Jupiter opposition Pluto. We can be quite ambitious now, feeling that if we set our sights high enough, we can achieve anything. However, treading lightly now, while it may not come naturally, is advised as it is easy to stir up opposition. We may take on too many interests, activities, or desires under this influence. Exaggerating our importance or power, either to ourselves or others, should be avoided. Our belief system could be challenged now, and the need for a major attitude change arises; or we might have to face narrow-mindedness in others (or in ourselves). Trying to force our beliefs on others will only lead to frustration. The tendency now is to push too hard in general, and to ignore the important details. Thinking in big terms is fine, as long as the more practical details of any pursuit are also considered.

SunSemi-squareChiron Sun semi-square Chiron. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong, but may be hampered by a lack of confidence or a fear of being different.

UranussquarePluto  Uranus square Pluto. This aspect can stimulate dissatisfaction with the way we've been living our lives, and with what we consider to be restrictions, whether these are internal or external ones. We may no longer be satisfied with superficial elements of our lives, humdrum routines, or situations that keep us feeling tied down or locked in. Buried feelings and motives can surface now, possibly erratically. Major changes can occur, and these help us to break out of monotony and to break bad habits. This is not the best time to make major commitments.

MarsSquareJupiter Mars square Jupiter. Although we may have much enthusiasm for life and for new projects, over-confidence and over-estimation of what we can do is likely. We can be impatient if results of our efforts don't materialize right away, and we can also be too focused on what we think should be and lose sight of what is possible. We are ready and willing to fight for our beliefs. We may be excitable and competitive. Jumping ahead without considering the consequences is the inclination, but can be costly. This energy is also associated with lawsuits or struggles involving differences in personal philosophies and principles. A feeling of urgency may make us come on stronger than we intend. The inclination towards taking risks is strong, and patience is short.

MarsOppositionUranus Mars opposition Uranus. This can be a time of much restlessness, rebellion, and impatience. We have a tendency to take risks and to act on sudden impulses without considering consequences. We assert our wills and individuality powerfully, and we are ready to fight for freedom. There may be changes in work schedules, or life's circumstances could challenge us in such a way that we need to change our goals or actions. This can also be a time when we tend to resist others and challenge them if they are trying to hold us back. Arguments and confrontations are likely. Technology may be a source of irritation, electrical appliances may break down or not work up to par. Energy fluctuates now. Anger can erupt seemingly from nowhere. If we aren't too rash or impulsive, we might be able to free ourselves from restrictive circumstances. We could also have more courage than usual to do things that break the routine, and confrontations engaged in now could clear the air and help us to move forward.

square Mars square Pluto. Our desires are intense and difficult to satisfy under this influence. A tendency to bully and confront may dominate. Efforts to make changes could be thwarted, or power struggles emerge. The trick is to remain flexible and to develop strategies for achieving our goals. The desire to get the upper hand is strong, but it's unlikely to happen under this influence. It would be wise to observe whatever powerful feelings that confrontations or conflicts arouse under this influence, as this transit has a way of pulling out suppressed matter, or emotional "slush". Passions run high, and so does sexual energy.

Mercurysemi-squareChiron Mercury semi-square Chiron. Communications may be careless, hurtful or perceived as hurtful under this influence. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now. There may be impatience with rules, worry or guilty feelings, and conflicting viewpoints now.

Venustrine Venus trine Saturn. Affections stabilize and mature. Small advances can be made in business and in partnerships. Support from older people or authority figures may come by way of solid advice or more tangible help. Renewed ties to old friends are possible, or a new sense of responsibility in existing friendships.

MercuryconjunctSun Mercury conjunct Sun. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It's a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse!

MercurysextileNeptune Mercury sextile Neptune. Intuition runs high; we are more sensitive artistically; imagination is stirred; and we have an increased appreciation for subtleties. We are inspired and we are able to inspire others with our words.

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)

April 20
The Moon is in Capricorn all day. Jupiter squares Uranus and opposes Pluto today (Uranus will square Pluto tomorrow, completing a T-square). Tense and restrictive circumstances that we may have tolerated in the past can reach a boiling point and feel unbearable now and in the coming days when Mars joins in. We may take on too many interests, activities, or desires. Venus conjuncts Chiron today, bringing us to important discoveries. It's a time for building trust in relationships, and for seeing potential in one another, although the process might feel painful! Insecurities are revealed and, ideally, cleansed. A new cycle of healing in love begins now.

April 21
The Moon is again in Capricorn all day. The Sun semi-squares Chiron this morning. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong, but may be hampered by a lack of confidence under this influence. A long-term aspect comes exact today: Uranus square Pluto. (The last of the series will occur in March 2015). This influence stimulates dissatisfaction with the way we've been living our lives, and with what we consider to be restrictions, whether these are internal or external ones. Mars will further activate this square tomorrow and the next.

A void of course Moon occurs from 7:22 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mercury), until the Moon enters Aquarius tomorrow, Tuesday, April 22nd, at 12:19 AM EDT.

April 22
The Moon enters Aquarius at 2:56 AM EDT. The Last Quarter Moon is exact early today, when the Sun in Taurus squares the Moon in Aquarius. A Grand Cross is forming, with Mars, Uranus, Pluto, and Jupiter with Mars' aspects today and early tomorrow. This is a very impulsive, rash, and volatile combination. Tense and restrictive circumstances that we may have tolerated in the past can reach a boiling point and feel unbearable. There can be a lot of arrogance displayed now. Although we may have much enthusiasm for life in general and for projects, we can be impatient if results of our efforts don't materialize right away, and we can also be too focused on what we think should be and lose sight of what is possible. The inclination towards taking risks is strong, and patience is short. If we aren't too rash or impulsive, we might be able to free ourselves from restrictive circumstances. We could also have more courage than usual to do things that break the routine, and confrontations engaged in now could clear the air and help us to move forward.

April 23
Mars opposes Uranus and squares Pluto early today. This can be a time of much restlessness, rebellion, and impatience. We have a tendency to take risks and to act on sudden impulses without considering consequences. There may be changes in work schedules, or life's circumstances could challenge us in such a way that we need to change our goals or actions. This can also be a time when we tend to resist others and challenge them if they are trying to hold us back. Anger can erupt seemingly from nowhere. Our desires are intense and difficult to satisfy. A tendency to bully and confront may dominate. Efforts to make changes could be thwarted, or power struggles emerge. The trick is to remain flexible and to develop strategies for achieving our goals. It would be wise to observe whatever powerful feelings that confrontations or conflicts arouse, as these influences have a way of pulling out suppressed matter, or emotional "slush". Mercury enters Taurus, where it will transit until May 7th. During this cycle, our thinking is down to earth, solid, and grounded. Common sense reigns over more fanciful thinking. We communicate more deliberately, and our minds are oriented to the world of the five senses. We prefer the tried and true rather than new ways of thinking. Attention to one thing at a time can simplify our lives, but we may be in danger of narrow, overly conservative, or rigid thinking. With today's Mercury-Chiron semi-square, there can be impatience with rules, worry or guilty feelings, and conflicting viewpoints. The Moon is in Aquarius all day.

A void of course Moon occurs from 12:12 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Pisces tomorrow, Thursday, April 24th, at 2:56 AM EDT.

April 24
A considerably more relaxed day is likely with the Moon in Pisces all day, harmonizing with Mercury and the Sun, and aligning with spiritual Neptune. Boundaries dissolve, and we are more idealistic than usual. We are inclined to daydream and perhaps stray from our regular routine a little. Paying attention to details is not a Pisces Moon preference. Venus and Saturn are moving towards a trine, exact very early into the day tomorrow, and we are more able to strike a balance between work and pleasure. We tend to be happier to fulfill responsibilities. Affections stabilize and mature. Small advances and successes might occur now in business or in partnership.

The Moon ends its void period when it enters Pisces at 2:56 AM EDT.

April 25
Venus trines Saturn early into the day, and affections stabilize or mature. Renewed ties to old friends are possible, or we might feel a new sense of responsibility in existing friendships. The Moon is in Pisces all day. Mercury aligns with the Sun in the sign of Taurus tonight. Projects or ideas birthed in mid-February might bear fruit now. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It's a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse! While this is a highly mental and objective influence, with Mercury approaching a sextile to Neptune, exact early tomorrow, we communicate with more sensitivity and imagination.

A void of course Moon occurs from 4:04 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Venus), until the Moon enters Aries tomorrow, Saturday, April 26th, at 6:02 AM EDT.

April 26

The Moon ends its void period when it enters Aries at 6:02 AM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Capricorn

MoonCapricornrWe become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.

The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.

When the Moon is in Aquarius

MoonAquarius Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.

The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.

When the Moon is in Pisces

MoonPiscesWe are not inclined to want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.

The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.

When the Moon is in Aries

MoonAriesWe're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to start something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.

The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Taurus The cycle now dawning in your life emphasizes stability, substance, practicality, and the concept of value - value in the material as well as psycho-spiritual sense. This marks a time of building to last, of appreciating the substantial rather than ephemeral. Consolidating past gains rather than focusing on radical new departures is likely to be a major theme for you during this cycle. Appreciating the finer things of life is another hallmark of this phase, which marks a time when you should be concentrating on "smelling the roses" rather than passing them by in such a hurry.

Mercury in Aries New ideas and an independent or pioneering mental orientation take on more importance in your life at this time. Teaching, learning, communicating, and social contact have a way of outlining new directions in your life now, and there is much activity and involvement with these kinds of issues.

Mercury in Taurus "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" - that's the key to the way you think at a time like this. Practical, utilitarian ideas are the ones that make the most sense now - putting them to good use is a focus for you. Material things are foremost on your mind in many respects: an emphasis on the real rather than the ideal.

Venus in Pisces A martyr complex, a love for the underdog, a search for your soul mate: such are the experiences associated with the new cycle you're now just beginning. A yen for soul-stirring romance, a weakness for the weak, and a tendency to idealize people and relationships ... very aesthetic, very other-worldly.

Mars in Libra "I'm giving you a definite maybe" - that's the motto of the cycle you're now entering. It's a time of refinement and tact, of an urge to please others that is so strong as to make it hard to decide or act for fear of offending someone. You'll quickly learn to balance this out, or you'll discover that there is no peace in compromise - and this can be tough on close relationships. The trick is to find the win-win solution to the no-win situation - and if anyone's ever up to it, you are now.

Jupiter in Cancer Taking care of yourself and all that's yours becomes a high priority in your life now. Security, setting down roots, establishing your ties with the past: these things are among the articles of faith that guide you. This is often a sign of growth in all things connected with family and property (such as real estate).

Saturn in Scorpio This new cycle signals a need to recognize that there are powers beyond your control, that things are not what they seem on the surface. Trying to stay in control and on top only sets you up for a fall. There is a need for the resources of others. Failure to recognize this and deal with it can stop you in your tracks.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...

The interpretations in this box are from the Day Watch software.
