A LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Thursday, August 6, 2015, at 10:03 PM EDT.

On Thursday night, the Last Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Leo squares the Moon in Taurus. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week's Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us--and what doesn't--in preparation for next week's New Moon, when something new is born once again. This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It's time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon on July 15th. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?

This phase of the Moon occurs at 14 degrees and 16 minutes of Taurus square the Sun at 14 degrees and 16 minutes of Leo, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 12 to 16 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)

The Sun is in Leo; Mercury is in Leo until August 7th, when it enters Virgo; Venus is in Leo; Mars is in Cancer until August 8th, when it enters Leo.

The Sun is in Leo from July 22-August 23. In Leo, the Sun is proud, outgoing, and playful. The Leo Sun is intensely individual—not content with simply being just one of the team. It's time to shine, add a touch of color and drama to our lives, and perform. Like the flowers and fruit of the season--blossoming and ripened--this is a time when we want to enjoy ourselves and express ourselves. We are more generous and grand in our gestures and attitudes. On the shadow side, we can also be self-centered and vain.

Mercury is in Leo from July 23-August 7. When Mercury is in Leo, our thinking is more confident and grand. The focus is now on the goal--and the more grand a goal the better! The details may not be quite as important now. We are more expressive, even theatrical and given to speech-giving and story-telling under this influence. We are also more convincing and persuasive, as we exude confidence when we speak or write. We may not listen as well as we normally do under Mercury in Leo.

Mercury is in Virgo from August 7-27. When Mercury is in Virgo, precision in speech, thought, and process is now important to us. This is a time when we analyze and decide what is useful and what we deem to be impractical. Mercury feels right at home in Virgo, one of the signs that it rules. Dealing with details is natural and easy now. We need to be careful that we don't lose perspective if we find ourselves lost in details. We should also be aware of the possibility of expressing ourselves in a too factual manner, so much so that we come across as dry, critical, or unimaginative.

Venus is in Leo from July 31-October 8. Venus is retrograde from July 25th to September 6th, and will move through its post-retrograde shadow until October 9th. Love is magnificent and grand while Venus is in Leo. We take pride in love, and we are generous with our money as well. This is a warmhearted, teasing, expressive, proud, and extravagant placement for Venus. Love is a bit of a game--a game that is perpetual, as Venus in Leo is forever stuck in the romance stage of a relationship. We feed on attention, acknowledgement, validation, and adoration. Venus in Leo loves to be adored, pampered, and admired. Pride and passion are hallmarks of this cycle. We have a strong ego investment in our love lives during this period. The negative expression of this placement is overstating our feelings simply for the effect, as well as extravagance.

Mars in Cancer from June 24-August 8. We pursue our interests ardently, but we avoid a direct approach to going after we want. As well, our goals and plans are subject to mood swings and vacillations. We are defensive rather than overtly aggressive. Much of what we do depends on our mood of the moment.

Mars in Leo from August 8-September 24. In Leo, Mars is proud, self-confident, and grand. We are spirited and have grand goals. We go after what we want in a direct, self-assured manner, desiring dramatic results. We prefer not to worry about details, and take the least complicated route to our goals. The sex drive is strong, and passion for life is high.

Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015 to December 20, 2017. Saturn re-entered Scorpio on June 14 and continues to transit Scorpio until September 17, 2015. Read about Saturn's transit through Sagittarius here. Read about Saturn's transit through Scorpio here.

Jupiter entered Leo on July 16th, where it will transit until August 11th, 2015. Read about Jupiter's transit through Leo here. Jupiter will transit Virgo from August 11, 2015 to September 9, 2016. Read about Jupiter in Virgo here.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Venus is retrograde from July 25 to September 6, 2015.

As the planet of love and values, Venus retrograde periods are times when we re-assess what—and who—we value. It is a period that many astrologers consider inopportune for getting married or starting a major new relationship. Major financial undertakings are generally not advised during this period as well. Venus retrograde cycles are good times for creating budgets and financial plans, and for re-thinking our personal relationships.

Because Venus rules beauty and aesthetics, Venus Retrograde is a less than ideal time for beautification processes (new hairdos, enhancements, purchasing a new wardrobe, cosmetic surgery, and so forth), renovations, re-decorating, and the like. Because Venus is associated with social events, parties may not go as planned.

On the subject of love, past lovers may re-appear and some relationships may end. With Venus in Leo for much of its retrograde cycle, our needs for attention may be especially strong. We may question the romance factor in our current relationships. With Venus in Virgo for some of this retrograde cycle, the tendency to focus on flaws (and to criticize) may be strong.

Old friends and lovers may re-appear, perhaps complicating current relationships. We are called upon to deal with relationship issues from the past. Events occur that seem fated or pre-destined. It can be a real challenge getting close to a lover during this period of time. Unorthodox, experimental, and non-intimate relationships may be favored.

Affection is difficult to express in a natural or spontaneous manner. We might find others are lacking in sincerity or genuineness in their expressions of social niceties. (We may be inclined to do the same!).

Some of the more negative associations of Venus in Leo may be particularly prominent and/or hard to take, and these include egoism, buying affection, or haughtiness. Those who have Leo strong in their charts may be more introspective, distant, or hard to reach during this cycle. They may not be in as favorable light just for the time being.

Relationships that have been especially challenging may come to an end during this cycle. However, strong relationships will survive it, even if there are a few bumps and bruises along the way. For singles, this is a good time for "eyes wide open" or experimental dating. It is not a time when people recognize the need for another person to "complete" them, and some people may be questioning whether they are with partners who actually fulfill them. This period is good for re-evaluating our relationship needs; but major love decisions are best saved for after the cycle ends beyond September 6th, and perhaps beyond the shadow phase as well (after October 9th). Our perceptions may be skewed and we can come out of the retrograde cycle with regret if we have acted hastily, as the tendency to change our minds later is strong.

On the subject of money, finances, and possessions, do try to hold off on major purchases or financial decisions during this Venus retrograde cycle. For example, the purchase of a new house, car, or other big-ticket item could backfire in some manner later on. They may become money pits or cause problems for you; or you may change your mind later and regret your purchase. More on Venus Retrograde here.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Leo from July 31-October 8. Venus is retrograde from July 25th to September 6th, and will move through its post-retrograde shadow until October 9th. Love is magnificent and grand!

This week: Venus aligns with Jupiter and later Mercury, and challenges Saturn and Pluto on Monday through Wednesday, forcing a reality check and possible adjustments to the structure of our relationships. We can feel up one moment and down the next, and may be reviewing matters from the past, or relationships from the past.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Leo July 31-October 8. Romance becomes an end in itself as a new cycle begins for you. It marks a time when love, creativity, and self-expression satisfy a deep yearning to be appreciated and admired - needed, even. A flashy, flirty, stylish splash of color and warmth.
Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto August 3-4. Tendencies to look for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousy raises its ugly head.
Venus conjunct Jupiter August 3-4. We have large appetites for love and pleasure, and generosity of spirit as well. An excellent time (all things considered) to begin a new relationship, or renew an old/existing one.
Venus square Saturn August 4-5. Feeling unsatisfied, isolated, and unloved. Personal relationships are likely to be strained as we express our affections cautiously and sparingly. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. This is not a good time to begin a new relationship--new ones begun now are likely to be stamped with themes of duty and restriction.
Venus conjunct Mercury August 6. Favors playfulness in love and enhanced communication between partners.
Venus conjunct the Sun August 15. Good relating is the focus, although some may find this energy superficial in that surface charm, diplomacy, and harmony is the goal. The pursuit of pleasure is emphasized.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Monday, August 3rd, from 4:36 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aries at 7:24 PM EDT.

VOC Moon on Wednesday, August 5th, from 7:30 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Taurus at 9:30 PM EDT.

VOC Moon on Saturday, August 8th, from 12:46 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mars), until the Moon enters Gemini at 1:40 AM EDT.

This Week's Calendar

This Week's Aspects

MercurytrineUranus Mercury trine Uranus. This is an opportune time to attend meetings and other organized group activities, to communicate online, and to take part in activities involving computers, scientific projects, and metaphysics. Unexpected gains may be realized through such mediums. The intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from "out of the blue". Original, creative ideas are easy to come by.

MercuryChiron Mercury quincunx Chiron. Decisions can be hard to come by under this influence, as we tend to doubt our perceptions or the effectiveness of our ability to solve problems. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now, which can lead to misunderstandings.

JupitersquareSaturn Jupiter square Saturn. We're forced to do things by the book, but may not want to. This is not the time to take shortcuts--they won't work. When we think in big terms, or if we have the urge to expand, we confront obstacles or we are forced to face reality. Some re-structuring of our lives and of our business goals is now in order. We may be looking for new challenges, sometimes because we are forced to do so (because things are not going exactly as we had planned). We have a desire to grow and expand, but our attitude is tempered with some caution and feelings of restriction. There is no "easy fix" just now. It is best to breathe new life into old plans rather than to strike out with a new plan altogether. Take steps to grow, but don't overextend yourself at this time or you are bound to face frustrations.

JupiterPluto Jupiter sesquiquadrate Pluto. We may take on too many interests, activities, or desires under this influence. Exaggerating our importance or power, either to ourselves or others, should be avoided.

VenusconjunctJupiter Venus conjunct Jupiter. A potentially magical transit when we are especially generous and giving, optimistic, and kind towards others. We might also be quite indulgent under this influence. We might be tempted to overspend or overstate our feelings now. We are sociable, fun-loving, and desirous of sharing our happiness with others. We have large appetites for love and pleasure, and generosity of spirit as well. This can be an excellent influence for beginning a new relationship or financial undertaking, or for renewing and refreshing existing ties with others.

pluto Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto. This influence can point to some underlying tensions in social interactions (looking for an ulterior motive and suspiciousness) and relationships (possible jealousies). Passions run hot, but there's a hidden agenda. Feelings of jealousy and possessiveness can be brewing just under the surface of things, and they are in direct proportion to our fear of losing something or someone dear to us. Avoid starting a new relationship at this time, because it can be characterized by these energies. Sometimes, this transit correlates with heartbreak, feelings of unreciprocated love, or romantic disappointment. Often, financial matters come to the fore. Manipulation can color relationships now. Avoid power plays with friends and lovers.

VenusSquareSaturn Venus square Saturn. Gaining what we want is challenging under this influence, due to negative attitudes and the tendency to need more than what is possible. Difficulties socializing with others stem from an increased sensitivity to rejection as well as stiffness with the affections. Emotional distance in relationships. Avoid new financial undertakings, as they may prove to be "money pits" as time passes.

SunquincunxPluto Sun quincunx Pluto. Adjustments are necessary now in order for our lives to move forward. The need to make changes in our life that will further our psychological development arise now.

MarstrineSaturn Mars trine Saturn. Work takes on definite shape, and we can see results from our efforts. This gives us a sense of responsibility and a feeling of directedness and purposefulness. This is a good time to temper our energy and to exercise better judgment. A good time to get and feel organized. Seniority is favored now. Traditional methods work, and thoroughness brings rewards.

Mercury conjunct Venus. Lighthearted conversations, sociability, humor, cooperation. Good time for socializing and for communicating with ease, telling others how we feel, and negotiating. Mentally, we're not as disciplined as usual, as we prefer to chat with others and to think about more "pleasant" things than work. Generally favorable for commerce.

Mercurysquare Mercury square Saturn. Getting from point A to point B can be a challenge during this transit due to obstacles. Communications may be blocked or delayed, and negative thinking could dominate at this time. Projects we thought were complete may need revision, and others could appear overly critical, insensitive, or sarcastic. It's difficult to trust our instincts, and we second-guess things automatically under this influence. Avoid signing on the dotted line at this time.

MercurysesquiquadratePluto Mercury sesquiquadrate Pluto. "Suspicious minds" characterize this transit, although if we harness the energy, we can develop strategies to get to the bottom of any matter. Mistrust, investigations. Some level of mental stress and pressure. A troubled mind.

MercuryconjunctJupiter Mercury conjunct Jupiter. We can visualize in broader terms and see the "big picture" now. Travel is favored, all things equal. We are optimistic, which can help us attract positive circumstances. This is a good time to submit ideas, applications, and so forth, all things equal. This is a time of thinking on a grand scale and long-range planning. Details and mundane affairs do not interest us as much as the big picture does. We are prone to exaggerating the facts due to enthusiasm. Expressing ourselves verbally comes easily, and public relations and negotiations run especially smoothly. This is a time for making long-range plans, seeing the big picture, and thinking about what is really important to us in the long run.

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)

AUGUST 2
Saturn turns direct today after retrograde motion since March 14th. Our responsibilities, and perhaps our limitations, are magnified now during the shift. Over the coming weeks, our long-term goals and plans become clearer, however. We have a stronger sense of what needs to be done. Even so, a trine between Mercury and Uranus today opens our minds to progressive thinking. The intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from "out of the blue". Original, creative ideas are easy to come by. This afternoon's Mercury-Chiron quincunx is tricky and can make decisions hard to come by, however, as we tend to doubt our perceptions or the effectiveness of our ability to solve problems. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now, which can lead to misunderstandings. The Moon is in Pisces all day. The Moon is in Pisces all day.

AUGUST 3
The Moon is in Pisces until 7:24 PM EDT, when it enters Aries. This morning Jupiter and Saturn form a square. This longer-term aspect will occur again in March and May, 2016, but both Jupiter and Saturn will have, by then, moved from Leo to Virgo and from Scorpio to Sagittarius, respectively. Right now, we may be forced to do things by the book, to abide by the rules or laws, and to adjust to a reality check. When we think in big terms, or if we have the urge to expand, we confront obstacles or we are forced to face reality. Some re-structuring of our lives and of our business goals is now in order. There are no easy fixes or shortcuts for us now - we have to put in the hours. It is best to breathe new life into old plans rather than to strike out with a new plan altogether. Take steps to grow, but don't overextend yourself at this time or you are bound to face frustrations.

A void of course Moon occurs from 4:36 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aries at 7:24 PM EDT.

AUGUST 4
Yesterday, Jupiter formed a square with Saturn, and today, it forms another tense aspect, a sesquiquadrate, with Pluto. It's important to avoid taking on too much or putting too much of ourselves into our projects and endeavors. Exaggerating our importance or power, either to ourselves or others, should be avoided. Retrograde Venus aligns with Jupiter today, and although this is typically a very helpful and beneficent aspect, Venus is also now very much involved in the difficult Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto aspect, pulling up underlying tensions in social interactions and relationships. Jealousies, envies, hidden agendas, and suspicion are all possible now. We have a tendency to want more than the world can provide for us now. There may be reactivation of old relationship grievances or financial/legal problems. Avoid new financial undertakings today, as they may prove to be "money pits" as time passes.

AUGUST 5

A void of course Moon occurs from 7:30 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Taurus at 9:30 PM EDT.

AUGUST 6

AUGUST 7

AUGUST 8

A void of course Moon occurs from 12:46 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mars), until the Moon enters Gemini at 1:40 AM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Pisces

MoonPiscesWe are not inclined to want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.

The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.

When the Moon is in Aries

MoonAriesWe're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to start something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.

The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.

When the Moon is in Taurus

MoonTaurusWe are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses". Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.

The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.

When the Moon is in Gemini

MoonGeminiOur basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.

The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, short trips.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Leo "This I do for me" is your motto at a time like this. This is your time to shine, like a swirl of starstuff that has finally reached critical mass and suddenly starts to give off more light than it receives. Issues of pride, mastery, and appreciation become more and more central to your lifestream as this cycle progresses, as does a very important lesson: it's not what you do so much as how you do it, not who you are so much as how you make others feel about themselves. If it doesn't come from the heart, it shouldn't matter now.

Mercury in Leo The hallmark of the cycle you have just begun is thinking, learning and communicating with style. Intellectual creativity is highlighted, and your social connections have a certain flair of drama to them. Winning the admiration of others for the things you say or write (and the way you do it) takes on more importance in your life.

Mercury in Virgo Mental discipline and patience are keynoted as you enter into a new cycle. Thinking things through, accounting for all the details, making careful measurements: these and similar experiences keep your mind active and involved. An interest in health and work may come to the fore.

Venus in Leo Romance becomes an end in itself as a new cycle begins for you. It marks a time when love, creativity, and self-expression satisfy a deep yearning to be appreciated and admired - needed, even. A flashy, flirty, stylish splash of color and warmth.

Mars in Cancer Defensive, aren't we? With this new cycle getting underway, protecting and preserving you and yours takes on a higher than usual priority. A sensitivity to the needs and wants of others and an appreciation for their frailties (as well as your own) makes you more cautious and conservative ... you pick your battles with care.

Mars in Leo The thrill of the chase, the smell of the greasepaint, the roar of the crowd: that's what gets your juices flowing now that you've entered a new cycle. To be appreciated, to be admired (adored, even) - that's what you crave. It's a time of creativity, drama, and passion; a time when grabbing the spotlight and stealing the scene gives you a thrill. Is winning everything? No - but it's way ahead of whatever comes in second!

Jupiter in Leo High drama, big romance, a creative bonanza: this is the stuff dreams are made of now. The world is your stage, the spotlight is your goal, and the love and appreciation of others is the air you breathe. Children, lovers, admirers: these are the people who figure large in your life as this cycle progresses. A willingness to gamble on the future.

Saturn in Scorpio This new cycle signals a need to recognize that there are powers beyond your control, that things are not what they seem on the surface. Trying to stay in control and on top only sets you up for a fall. There is a need for the resources of others. Failure to recognize this and deal with it can stop you in your tracks.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...
