First Quarter Moon
The First Quarter MOON occurred last week on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026, at 7:11 AM EDT.
On Saturday morning, the First Quarter Moon occurred, when the Sun in Gemini formed a square with the Virgo Moon. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we become aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error.
Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now taking off, and perhaps now facing its first obstacles.
Ideally, these challenges motivate us to improve our projects. This can be a time of stress, clashing, and discord, but also of high energy, motivation, and growth.
The First Quarter Moon Chart:
This phase of the Moon occurred at 2 degrees and 21 minutes of Virgo, square the Sun at the same degree of Gemini, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 0 to 4 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) the most significantly.
NEXT WEEK: The next Moon phase will occur on Sunday, May 31st, 2026, at 4:45 AM EDT, when the Full Moon will happen.

(Times are Eastern)
This week: The Sun is in Gemini; Mercury is in Gemini; Venus is in Cancer; Mars is in Taurus.
The Sun is in Gemini from May 20-June 21. Knowledge and diversity motivate us with the Sun in Gemini. We are more sociable, intellectual, and insatiably curious under this influence. Due to this curiosity and awareness of all our options, we tend to scatter our energies. We are more communicative and versatile, but we can also be unreliable.
Gemini represents duality and mediation. Gemini’s energy is intelligent, optimistic, observant, and adaptable. It’s skeptical, ready to consider alternate ways of thinking. We’re prepared to trade, share, exchange, pass on news, teach, guide, and learn.
We gather information during the Sun-in-Gemini cycle, and we benefit from this transit’s objectivity. We’re quick-witted, cheerful, engaging, and we easily adapt, observe, and listen–it’s a clever and crafty influence.
On the downside, we can be gossipy, overly intellectual, or too rational when a softer touch would be more appropriate. As we relay and process information, we could be living too much in our heads, disconnected from what’s in our hearts.
Mercury is in Gemini from May 17-June 1. When Mercury is in Gemini, we are especially communicative, curious, and sociable. Mercury rules Gemini and feels right at home in the sign. We tend to take more pleasure in gaining a superficial knowledge of many subjects rather than dig deep into any one topic.
When it comes to making a point or debating, we are especially astute while Mercury is in Gemini. We are attracted to wordplays, puns, and negotiations, and we’re easily distracted. It’s a time when we’re more interested in trivia, information tidbits, and detached observations. There can be frequent changes of mind and subject. We’re flexible and quick to grasp topics.
Venus is in Cancer from May 18-June 13. In Cancer, Venus is nurturing, protective and self-protective, cautious, and fertile. We experience many emotional ups and downs in love under this influence due to our increased sensitivity and impressionability. We are tender, romantic, and attached. We could be clingy or sulky during this period.
Cancer love is dedicated, warm, and devoted. We show our love through our devotion, care, and concern. We are affectionate and cuddly, and are at our best when we feel safe and secure. We also want to make our loved ones feel safe and comfortable. It’s a good cycle for collecting and money related to real estate, accommodation, food, coins, silver, or antiques. We enjoy homey, familiar pastimes and art and simple pleasures.
Cautious with our feelings, we are not always confident about boldly trying or sharing new things during this cycle. However, we do whatever we can to make our loved ones feel special. Our memories are long, and we can be very sentimental.
Mars is in Taurus from May 18-June 28. During this cycle, we are determined, stubborn, and persistent. Mars in Taurus can be passive until provoked and is at its strongest when digging in its heels, outlasting, or defending something! In stark contrast to the impulsive Mars in Aries cycle, we tend to pursue our goals by plodding along patiently. We seek longevity and long-term satisfaction.
While Mars is in Taurus, we’re slow to change course or get started but persevering. Preferring methodical work over creative methods, we seek predictability and stability. We can be stubborn and resistant to change, and we’ll work the hardest for material security.
It’s not a time when we readily take risks. Instead, we seek concrete, long-lasting results. Our stamina is great, and our cravings and physical needs/desires are prominent, driving us towards our goals.

Jupiter is in Cancer.
Jupiter began its transit of Cancer on June 9th, 2025, and will continue its visit to the sign until June 30th, 2026. Read more about Jupiter’s transit of Cancer.

Saturn is in Aries. Saturn is in Aries from May 24th, 2025 to September 1st, 2025, and then from February 13th, 2026, to April 12th, 2028. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aries.

Uranus is in Gemini.
Uranus is in Gemini from July 7th to November 7th, 2025, from April 25, 2026, to August 3, 2032, and then from December 12, 2032, to May 22, 2033. Read about Uranus in Gemini in its calendar page.

Neptune is in Aries. Neptune first transited Aries from March 30, 2025, to October 22, 2025, but it returned to Pisces. Now, Neptune is in Aries for the long haul: from January 26, 2026, to May 21, 2038, and then October 21, 2038, to March 23, 2039. Read about Neptune’s transit of Aries.

Pluto is in Aquarius. Read about Pluto’s transit of Aquarius. Note that Pluto finally completed its journey through Capricorn on November 19th, 2024, from which time Pluto stays in Aquarius for many years to come.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Cancer from May 18-June 13. We treat lovers with sympathy and tenderness, providing the emotional nurturing that they need. We tend to “play it safe” when it comes to relationships. Love and devotion are most important to us, and provide us with a sense of inner security. We seek a deep love in which we can merge souls and personalities with our lover. We are quite devoted to our partners, and we seek such devotion in return.
However, we could also become possessive, manipulative, and stifling. Familiarity is more important to us now. Our fear of rejection is overdeveloped, and we offer our hearts cautiously as a result. We pay more attention to our lovers’ feelings than their words. We feel threatened if a lover acts in an impersonal, overly independent, or detached manner. Safe and solid relationships are more appealing. Romantic and emotional hurts are very hard to forget.
In Cancer, Venus is nurturing, protective and self-protective, cautious, and fertile. We experience many emotional ups and downs in love under this influence due to increased sensitivity and impressionability. We are tender, romantic, and attached. Cancer love is dedicated, warm, and devoted. We show our love through our devotion, care, and concern. We are affectionate and cuddly, and are at our best when we feel safe and secure.
This week: Tuesday holds good energy for communication. We socialize more readily, and we tend to analyze our feelings.
On Thursday, however, we can reach an impasse or obstacle. There can be a checkpoint moment for our relationships. Temporarily, we fear the worst and see the flaws. There can be some emotional distance or blockage, and ideally, it’s a time for reaching a new level of maturity and realism in our relationships. Relationship goals can very much clash with our duties or responsibilities.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Cancer Mothering (or being mothered), sympathy, a yearning to put down roots, and a fondness for things that have stood the test of time – these are some of the hallmarks of the phase that now begins in your life. Romantic and social experiences, as well as artistic tastes, will show evidence of these factors.
Venus square Neptune May 21-22. Relationship ups and downs characterize this transit–a time when romantic mirages are more than likely. We see what we hope to see, rather than what really is. The “highs” of a relationship begun under this energy may be thrilling, but the accompanying “lows” are bound to set in, and they can be extremely draining. Be careful not to set yourself up for disappointment.
Venus trine North Node of the Moon May 22. We are more concerned about harmonizing and tend to be agreeable and cooperative. We could feel lucky in love, and we could meet someone who is good for us. Fortunate connections might be made now.
Venus quincunx Pluto May 23. This is a time of adjustments and re-assessments in our close personal relationships and/or with regards to our social lives. Issues of power and control can arise. Unreasonable or irrational fears of loss, or jealousy, could also emerge.
Venus parallel Mercury May 26. A congenial time when we appreciate diplomacy and socialize more readily.
Venus square Saturn May 28. Feeling unsatisfied, isolated, and unloved. Personal relationships are likely to be strained as we express our affections cautiously and sparingly. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. This is not a good time to begin a new relationship–new ones begun now are likely to be stamped with themes of duty and restriction.
Venus semi-square Uranus June 2. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness. A desire to experiment in the romance department may be fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying or frustrating.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, May 24th, from 8:54 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Libra the next day, Monday, May 25th, at 10:34 AM EDT.
VOC on Wednesday, May 27th, from 7:32 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 8:53 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Friday, May 29th, from 8:05 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Sagittarius the next day, on Saturday, May 30th, at 8:45 AM EDT.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waxing this week, which is generally favorable for new beginnings, but with some exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week on Sunday, May 24th, from approximately 7:10 AM to 8:50 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Virgo. Another window occurs from Thursday, May 28th, at approximately 8:30 PM EDT, until Friday, May 29th, at approximately 8:00 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Scorpio. This second window is better from approximately 2 AM to 8 PM EDT on Friday.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
![]()
![]()
Sun sextile Neptune. We’re at the right place at the right time, probably because our hunches are more likely to be correct and we are “tuned in”. We are inspired, and charitable acts now will serve to lift our spirits like no drug can. A good time for self-improvement programs or efforts. Instinctual judgment is enhanced under this influence. We are able to see matters, and people, from a different perspective–one that allows for, and even finds beauty in, differences.
![]()
![]()
Mars square Pluto. Our desires are intense and difficult to satisfy under this influence. A tendency to bully and confront may dominate. Efforts to make changes could be thwarted, or power struggles emerge. The trick is to remain flexible and to develop strategies for achieving our goals. The desire to get the upper hand is strong, but it’s unlikely to happen under this influence. It would be wise to observe whatever powerful feelings that confrontations or conflicts arouse under this influence, as this transit has a way of pulling out suppressed matter, or emotional “slush”. Passions run high, and so does sexual energy.
![]()
![]()
Sun trine Pluto. We are able to get to the bottom of things now. We are more decisive than usual, and our abilities to concentrate and focus help us achieve what we set out to do. Endurance, the power to achieve, an opportunity to draw upon our past and to capitalize on resources, and strategy are all themes of this influence. This is a very positive aspect for starting a money-making endeavor (all things equal) or a new project. Leadership skills are in focus and strong. We are more able to connect with others in terms of shared goals and interests. The focus now is on eliminating negative or superficial elements in our lives.
![]()
![]()
Mercury sesquiquadrate Pluto. “Suspicious minds” characterize this transit, although if we harness the energy, we can develop strategies to get to the bottom of any matter. Mistrust, investigations. Some level of mental stress and pressure. A troubled mind.
![]()
![]()
Mercury semi-square Mars. We are quick-witted and ready to argue under this influence. We may be working under stressful or hectic conditions, as we feel pressure to get things done quickly. We are inclined to be snappy and irritable, and we may too easily interrupt others rather than listen. Conflicts of interest are likely.
![]()
![]()
Venus square Saturn. Gaining what we want is challenging under this influence, due to negative attitudes and the tendency to need more than what is possible. Difficulties socializing with others stem from an increased sensitivity to rejection as well as stiffness with the affections. Emotional distance in relationships. Avoid new financial undertakings, as they may prove to be “money pits” as time passes.
![]()
![]()
Sun semi-square Jupiter. We may feel vague restlessness and discontent with life as it is. We want more, but perhaps too much. Overestimation, wastefulness, and exaggeration. Elevated moods, but unstable ones, as they may not be based on reality.

MAY 24
Today’s Virgo Moon is practical, down-to-earth, and organized. However, the day holds Neptunian themes, and we’re also tuning in to our need for magic. In fact, we’re ready to imagine, and we are idealistic, spiritually aware, and sensitive. The Sun sextiles Neptune, and Mercury forms a quintile with Neptune today, enhancing our instinctual judgment. We see things from a perspective that celebrates our differences. We take things as they come, finding meaning in our experiences more readily than usual.
These influences set an excellent mood for respecting our intuition. We’re tuned in, inspired, and charitable. What feels like serendipity now may be due to a good sense of timing and a sense of being in sync with the universe.
The Moon is void from 8:54 PM EDT today, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Libra tomorrow, Monday, May 25th, at 10:34 AM EDT.
MAY 25
The Sun squares the Moon’s Nodes today, suggesting dissatisfaction and disagreement. We could be moving in directions that counter our growth, perhaps allowing ego issues to work against us. Circumstances may take us out of our comfort zone temporarily, which feels disruptive and counter-productive at first glance, but might ultimately redirect us in helpful ways.
With a Mars-Pluto square influencing the day as it advances, we might crave a sense of control over events, relationships, or circumstances and become frustrated at any sign that we don’t have it. However, attempts to gain control or power tend to be fruitless during this transit. This square can stir intense desires that may not easily be satisfied. There can be arguments, standstills, and power games. Ideally, we observe and learn from the powerful feelings that arise in confrontations or conflicts. We should aim to remain flexible, perhaps devising strategies to achieve our goals rather than pushing them through at all costs.
The Moon is void until it enters Libra today at 10:34 AM EDT.
MAY 26
The Sun forms a trine to Pluto today, helping us channel tense energies stirred up by the Mars-Pluto square. Both the Sun and Pluto form sextiles with Vesta, as Vesta sits between these bodies.
It can be a time of personal growth and character-building activities. We are empowered by the belief that we can navigate our circumstances to our advantage, adding a layer of seriousness and intensity to the day. This transit helps us focus our energies to our advantage. Diving deeply into a matter can be satisfying and rewarding. We’re exceptionally resourceful and efficient under this influence. This influence sets up just the right energy for gravitating toward people and situations that help us succeed or advance our goals. Shared goals and interests connect us with others.
The focus now is on eliminating negative elements in our lives, particularly in pursuing our personal interests and social goals, so that we can move forward with greater conviction. This transit encourages cooperation and practical ability. We can draw on our past and capitalize on our talents, communication skills, intelligence, and resources.
The day favors finding a responsibility or task that truly needs our attention and working hard on it. The Pluto-Vesta sextile gently motivates us to pursue our goals and commitments. We can be quite productive now, and we’re very resourceful. We might renew a project or passion, and can feel pleasantly ambitious. The motivation to dedicate ourselves to a special project or cause is with us.
This afternoon’s Mercury-Venus parallel promotes cooperation, diplomacy, and congeniality. We may be clarifying feelings or connections, and we tend to intellectualize emotions and affections as the day advances.
MAY 27
Mercury forms minor challenging aspects today, first with Pluto, and later with Mars. Communications can be loaded, or perceived as such. Even withholding communication can be an issue now. These transits can produce a somewhat suspicious outlook on how things work. If others do not agree or adopt our ideas, we may take this as a personal affront. Some irritability is likely as we sort things out. We can quickly come up with ideas or retorts as the day advances, but we can be a little jumpy and snappy. If we succumb to pressure to complete tasks quickly, we may end up working under stressful or hectic conditions. It’s not an ideal time for patience or listening skills. However, frustration could fuel our motivation to make a change.
The Moon is void from 7:32 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 8:53 PM EDT.
MAY 28
The Moon spends the day in Scorpio, and we’re inclined to scope out the hidden layers of any given situation. The Moon opposes Mars and squares Pluto this morning, and there can be some restlessness, impatience, and combativeness. At the same time, with the Sun’s semi-sextile to Mars this morning, we could struggle with whether to take a direct or indirect approach to getting what we want. However, we’re probably better off recognizing that it doesn’t have to be one way or the other–a combination would be ideal, or else the see-sawing can be confusing to all.
Venus forms a square to Saturn today, and there can be some withholding or socially awkward energy with us. We may feel a little discouraged on a social level if we don’t receive the feedback we crave, or it can be a checkpoint moment in a relationship or a money matter. Gaining what we want is challenging under this influence, possibly due to negative expectations or a tendency to crave more than what is currently and realistically possible. Difficulties with socializing can occur if we are more sensitive to rejection than usual. There may be a lesson or reality check related to matters of the heart, pleasures, or finances. Temporarily, we’re unlikely to feel free or generous with money or our hearts.
MAY 29
The Moon is void today from 8:05 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Sagittarius the next day, on Saturday, May 30th, at 8:45 AM EDT.
MAY 30
The Moon continues its void period until the Moon enters Sagittarius today at 8:45 AM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Virgo
![]()
We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.
The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.
When the Moon is in Libra
![]()
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.
When the Moon is in Scorpio
![]()
Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.
The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
![]()
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Gemini The cycle which begins for you now will be marked by a more intense focus on mental and communicative activity than you may ever have experienced before. It’s a time of more involvement with other people, a time for gathering information, and a time when you’re apt to be more on the go than ever. There is likely to be an emphasis on reading, writing, studying, and all forms of exchanging information with others in the years ahead – and it will all serve as a path for self-discovery and personal development.
Mercury in Gemini A walking encyclopedia, a yen to know a little bit about everything (and everyone): these are the icons of the cycle you have just begun. Talking, writing, keeping a finger on the pulse of all that’s happening … this is a time of study and learning, a cycle of mental challenge, curiosity, and social/intellectual growth. Such things are an end in themselves rather than a means to any other end.
Mars in Taurus Making the most of what you’ve got, striving for security and stability: that’s the impulse that stirs in you as a new cycle begins in your life. New frontiers? That’s kid’s stuff for you now! What you want is to build something that will last: a pyramid, a Great Wall – you know, that sort of thing. Steady, patient, solid: that’s your style now.
Jupiter in Cancer Taking care of yourself and all that’s yours becomes a high priority in your life now. Security, setting down roots, establishing your ties with the past: these things are among the articles of faith that guide you. This is often a sign of growth in all things connected with family and property (such as real estate).
Saturn in Aries Self-discipline and a sense of self-worth become important issues in your life as a new phase begins for you. A fear of asserting yourself can hold you back – as can coming on too strong. The trick is learning to make the most of your personal talents and abilities, working within your limitations instead of feeling hemmed in by them.
Uranus in Gemini New ideas, new input, and new ways of exchanging these things with others – all these and more become increasingly important factor in your life now, as you enter into a new phase. This is a period of enhanced mental activity, a nonstop stream of consciousness, of trying out new concepts and perspectives.
Neptune in Aries The frontier spirit is alive and well as a new cycle dawns in your life. Independence and originality take on a kind of primal importance for you; you tend to put these qualities on a pedestal, above all else. Fresh starts, new possibilities … these are the visions that light a spark in your soul. But what of the weak, the ones who aren’t free, the ones who get left behind?
Pluto in Aquarius Reform, revolution, a rejection of the past and a focus on the future: these are the signatures of the new phase now beginning in your life. Tradition becomes irrelevant, and the conventional wisdom is revealed as dogma or outright nonsense – and what’s the difference, really? Radical changes in all things social and intellectual.
