A NEW Moon occurs on Sunday, December 21, 2014, at 8:36 PM EST.

On Sunday night, a New Moon occurs in Capricorn. This comes extremely close to the beginning of the sign. This lunation symbolizes a new beginning in the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn. It's a time during which we can focus on some of the constructive traits of the sign of the Goat--tenacious, resourceful, disciplined, wise, ambitious, prudent, constant--and consider how to positively incorporate these qualities into our lives. Now, we can focus on practical and attainable long-term goals, work on developing maturity and common sense, prepare for the future, make commitments and recognize responsibilities, and nurture our dreams in a realistic manner.

With this potent Capricorn energy, we have the chance to create some serious order in our lives. It's time to make some solid plans, and to set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks' time after the Full Moon occurs.

One of Capricorn's "lessons" is acceptance of the concept that reasonable boundaries and rules actually do offer us freedom--freedom from worry and chaos, for example. Setting goals for ourselves allows us to focus on what really matters.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 0 degrees and 6 minutes of Capricorn, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 27 to 30 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) and 0 to 3 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)

The Sun is in Sagittarius until December 21st, when it enters Capricorn; Mercury is in Capricorn; Venus is in Capricorn; Mars is in Aquarius.

The Sun is in Sagittarius from November 22-December 21. With the Sun in Sagittarius, our focus shifts from the need for an intimate connection with a person and with ourselves, to the desire to reach out to the world and connect with something larger than ourselves. While the Sun moves through this fiery, mutable sign, we can take steps to increase our understanding and awareness of the world around us. We are more able to muster up the courage to expand our horizons and branch out into new ways of thinking. We can gain more confidence and optimism by focusing on the "big picture" as we move away from our focus on the details of mundane existence. Although we may be prone to overdoing our expectations, we have the opportunity to nurture our faith, hope, and vision under this influence.

The Sun is in Capricorn from December 21-January 20. We are motivated by feelings of responsibility, ambition, and respect for law and order. Capricorn derives much satisfaction in completion and accomplishment. Standards, structures, and an appreciation for order are Capricorn themes. Capricorn wants tangible results, knows what is feasible and what is not, and is most comfortable working within an established framework and known boundaries or limits. Working towards a long-term goal is most satisfying with this influence.

Mercury is in Capricorn from December 16-January 4. When Mercury is in Capricorn, our thinking is methodical and our focus is sober and practical. It is easier to concentrate on the task at hand under this influence. Our conversations may be quite realistic or focused on business/practical matters. Our thought patterns and communication styles become more logical, orderly, and organized. We are more able to sort out what is relevant and essential. Realism enters the picture, our speech is no-nonsense, and precision becomes important to us. We need to be wary of becoming too rigid in our thinking. We may come across as cold or harsh. For some, there is fine line between realism and pessimism.

Venus is in Capricorn December 10-January 3. Getting serious about our finances and boosting our relations with business partners and/or co-workers will be easier than usual under this influence. Our talents for creating artistic structure and form are enhanced, and our ability to form connections with people who support our ambitions is increased. We value enduring connections, reliability, and faithfulness. We take expressing our feelings seriously, and we take our time to warm up to others. We generally keep our "cool" in relationships.

Mars is in Aquarius from December 4-January 12. Dynamic yet erratic energy levels, achieving our goals through hit or miss tactics, and impersonal expression of anger are characteristics of Mars in Aquarius. We are team players--cooperative and less concerned about personal power. We are attracted to unconventional methods, and tend to approach problems from an intellectual, detached perspective.

Saturn transits Scorpio from October 5, 2012 to December 23, 2014, and then from June 14 to September 17, 2015. Read about Saturn's transit through Scorpio here.

Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015 to December 20, 2017. Read about Saturn's transit through Sagittarius here.

Jupiter entered Leo on July 16th, where it will transit until August 11th, 2015. Read about Jupiter's transit through Leo here. Jupiter will transit Virgo from August 11, 2015 to September 9, 2016.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Capricorn from December 10-January 3. Venus in Capricorn is a cycle in which security and stability in our relationships is paramount. We are more cautious with our emotions, and somewhat skeptical of both our own feelings and others' expressions of affection. Longevity is important to us under this influence. There is a formality to Capricorn that can make personal expressions seem awkward and forced. However, this cycle offers us the opportunity to consider some of the practical issues of our relations and to work on making our partnerships work in the real world. A dose of realism in our personal lives can help us to feel more grounded and secure in the long run.

This week: Monday morning, we can be a little stiff with our feelings, likely driven by insecurities. Friday can bring some relationship confusion, and ups and downs if we're seeing only what we want to see.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Capricorn December 10-January 3. Marry for money and then learn to love 'em: that's what your heart tells you now, as a new cycle gets underway in your life. Does that sound cynical? Maybe so - but it does reflect the yearning you feel for security and stability now, and it suggests the kind of compromises you may be willing to make to accomplish these objectives.
Venus square Uranus December 20. We might have to deal with issues of freedom versus intimacy during this period. Peculiar or impulsive attractions are exciting, but unlikely to last very long. Treat them as passing fancies, and enjoy them while they last--but try to hold off on making any big decisions with regards to love today.
Venus conjunct Pluto December 20. An extraordinarily passionate time for relationships. We are focused and confident. There is a tendency to want--and to demand--a lot from a partnership or friendship. Powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions. Relationships begun under this influence are intense and passionate, deep and far from superficial, and can be quite possessive as well.
Venus sextile Chiron December 20-21. Love has the power to heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings and more willing to act upon them.
Venus semi-square Saturn December 21-22. Feelings of isolation, of not getting what we really want, and of not being loved the way we want to be loved can get in the way of pleasant relations with our partners.
Venus semi-square Neptune December 26. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.
Venus quincunx Jupiter December 27-28. A strong desire for the pleasures of life is with us now, although our eyes are often bigger than our stomachs. Troubles in relationships now are likely due to overblown expectations. It can be challenging to find a balance between responsibilities and the desire for self-gratification.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, December 21st, from 7:35 AM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 8:26 PM EST.

VOC Moon on Monday, December 22nd, from 10:18 PM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Venus), until the Moon enters Aquarius the next day, Tuesday, December 23rd, at 9:53 PM EST.

VOC Moon on Thursday, December 25th, from 10:12 AM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Pisces at 11:08 PM EST.

VOC Moon on Saturday, December 27th, from 10:45 AM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Venus), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Sunday, December 28th, at 1:36 AM EST.

This Week's Calendar

This Week's Aspects

Venussextile Venus sextile Chiron. We have the chance to heal our personal relationships now, as we are more open to intimacy and commitment, as well as learning from one another. We more easily see beauty in human weaknesses. It's a strong time for building trust in relationships.

Mercurysesquiquadrate  Mercury sesquiquadrate Jupiter. We experience information overload, and we neglect to consider details. People tend to exaggerate today.

Venus semi-square Saturn. There may be difficulties relating to others under this influence. People may be cool with their affections and emotionally distant. Avoid new financial undertakings, as they may prove to be "money pits" as time passes. There may be anxiety or troubles with regards to matters concerned with the feelings. Romantic disappointments, unrequited love, separations, and broken engagements are the more negative manifestations. We tend to lack social confidence at this time and adopt a shy, formal, or reserved social manner. This transit is best used for reflection.

MercurysquareUranus Mercury square Uranus. Our senses are stimulated, and we could have sudden flashes of insight or fresh new ideas. However, our ideas are not always received well by others and we can be scatter-brained. It's a challenge to deal with routine matters or monotonous tasks under this influence. Tasks may be left undone or interrupted. This is not a good time to be understood, so we may want to hold off presenting our ideas for the time being. New information can surface now that upsets the status quo, but can also act to stimulate our minds into new ways of thinking.

MercuryconjunctPluto Mercury conjunct Pluto. Mental activity can be intense at this time. We may uncover valuable information or gain understanding. Thoughts, ideas, and communications are more intense and focused. We are more able, and motivated, to find hidden meanings and to "cut to the chase". Efficiency and relevancy become important to us. Our minds are investigative and probing, and we may be bent on revealing truths. Our persuasive powers, strategic thinking, and observational skills increase, but we may also be suspicious, manipulative, obsessed, or we might be involved in frustrating mental battles if we handle this transit improperly.

sextile Mercury sextile Chiron. This is an excellent period for opening up communications with others, as we are more sensitive than usual and more willing to listen. Getting our point across is easier, as it's not only about which words we choose to communicate, we intuitively express the meaning and intention behind the words. We can effectively use words to heal and comfort just now. We are also more open to new ways of looking at problems or at life in general.

Mercury Mercury semi-square Saturn. Red tape, re-doing tasks we thought we had finished, problems getting from point A to point B, delays in communication, negative thinking, hyper-sensitivity and criticism--these are all potentials now. The energy is best used for focusing on fixing errors rather than harping on how irritating they are!

VenusSemi-squareNeptune Venus semi-square Neptune. Happiness is addictive under this influence. We tend to see what we want to see. Glossing over the more realistic points, details, and flaws of circumstances and of people provides us with instant gratification. However, it's wise to hold off on making important purchases, or natalizing a relationship until the veil lifts. Take care with legal, financial, and social involvements, contracts, or formal agreements under this dreamy influence.

SunsextileNeptune Sun sextile Neptune. We're at the right place at the right time, probably because our hunches are more likely to be correct and we are "tuned in". We are inspired, and charitable acts now will serve to lift our spirits like no drug can. A good time for self-improvement programs or efforts. Instinctual judgment is enhanced under this influence. We are able to see matters, and people, from a different perspective--one that allows for, and even finds beauty in, differences.

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)

DECEMBER 21
Early today, Venus sextiles Chiron, and good energy is with us for healing, particularly our hearts. The Sun enters Capricorn this evening, and the Moon leaves Sagittarius and enters Capricorn at 8:26 PM EST. Within minutes, the New Moon occurs (8:36 PM EST). This comes extremely close to the beginning of the sign, and symbolizes a new beginning in the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn. It's a time during which we can focus on some of the constructive traits of the sign of the Goat (tenacious, resourceful, disciplined, wise, ambitious, prudent, constant) and consider how to positively incorporate these qualities into our lives. Now, we can focus on practical and attainable long-term goals, work on developing maturity and common sense, prepare for the future, make commitments and recognize responsibilities, and nurture our dreams in a realistic manner. With this potent Capricorn energy, we have the chance to create some serious order in our lives. It's time to make some solid plans, and to set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be. One of Capricorn's "lessons" is acceptance of the concept that reasonable boundaries and rules actually do offer us freedom--freedom from worry and chaos, for example. Setting goals for ourselves allows us to focus on what really matters. Uranus turns direct today after months of retrograde motion. Uranus energy hangs heavy in the air, and "all things Uranus" become strong themes. As Uranus gains speed in the next few weeks, our urge to express ourselves uniquely, to take some chances or risks, to rebel, to listen to our own instincts, and to stir up change are re-awakened.

A void of course Moon occurs from 7:35 AM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 8:26 PM EST.

DECEMBER 22
The Moon is in Capricorn all day, and energy is strong for producing and accomplishing. This morning's Venus-Saturn semi-square Saturn might point to possible diffidence in our interactions. People may be cool with their affections and emotionally distant. There may be anxiety or troubles with regards to matters concerned with the feelings and affections. Although it's a clumsy beginning to the day, there is still powerful energy for setting intentions and making plans. The Capricorn Moon aligns with Pluto late afternoon and then Venus tonight, illuminating our vulnerabilities, desires, and wants.

A void of course Moon occurs from 10:18 PM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Venus), until the Moon enters Aquarius tomorrow, Tuesday, December 23rd, at 9:53 PM EST.

DECEMBER 23
Saturn enters Sagittarius today, where it will transit until June 14th, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015 to December 20, 2017. Saturn in Sagittarius asks us to take on the responsibility of living according to our personal truths and principles, and to be loyal to these. This is a time for turning a critical eye to those beliefs and principles that don't accurately reflect our authentic selves. We'll begin to see clearly where excessive or irresponsible behavior has cost us time, energy, and happiness. This is a time for making clear choices and decisions, for weeding out what isn't working for us, and for letting go of lost causes. Sagittarius can be a little "messy" in its pursuit of new knowledge and experiences, and Saturn wants to clean this up. If we've become too moralistic, we may be challenged to walk the talk and practice what we preach. The Moon is in Capricorn most of the day, until 9:53 PM EST, when it enters Aquarius.

The Moon ends its void period at 9:53 PM EST, when it enters Aquarius.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Sagittarius

MoonSagittariusThe Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".

The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.

When the Moon is in Capricorn

MoonCapricornrWe become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.

The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.

When the Moon is in Aquarius

MoonAquarius Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.

The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.

When the Moon is in Pisces

MoonPiscesWe are not inclined to want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.

The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.

When the Moon is in...Transits of the Moon through the Signs.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Sagittarius You're now embarking on a trek into a land of dreams - not passive daydreams, but vibrant visions of what may be. The time has come to stop looking at the world as it is and asking why. Now's the time to imagine the world as it could be, and the question has become: "Why not?" You also cannot do everything you imagine now, but you cannot do anything you don't KNOW you can do - so believe, and dare to make it happen! This means expanding your mind, your belief system, your whole base of knowledge and experience. Time's a wastin' - let no grass grow between your toes!

Sun in Capricorn You see what's wrong and you know what to do now: the time has come to make it real, and it's a lot bigger than any one person. This means cooperation and organization, authority and discipline, responsibility - and all these things are what it takes to get you where you know you must go. But take care! If your vision is only for yourself, what you create cannot last: it must be for some greater good. Ambition, practicality, and achievement are admirable, but they are means to an end - not ends in themselves.

Mercury in Capricorn Figuring out how to organize projects and people is apt to become a topic of special interest - and a challenge - at a time like this. Opinions are not enough for you now: they must be backed by authority or evidence, and above all they must have practical worth and application. A period of intense study and thought.

Venus in Capricorn Marry for money and then learn to love 'em: that's what your heart tells you now, as a new cycle gets underway in your life. Does that sound cynical? Maybe so - but it does reflect the yearning you feel for security and stability now, and it suggests the kind of compromises you may be willing to make to accomplish these objectives.

Mars in Aquarius The reformer, the inventor, the engineer, the revolutionary - these are important archetypes for you as a new cycle gets underway in your life. They are icons of the ambitions that stir you at a time like this. Independence, freedom from past patterns, and a daring readiness to innovate: such are the paths of achievement for you now.

Jupiter in Leo High drama, big romance, a creative bonanza: this is the stuff dreams are made of now. The world is your stage, the spotlight is your goal, and the love and appreciation of others is the air you breathe. Children, lovers, admirers: these are the people who figure large in your life as this cycle progresses. A willingness to gamble on the future.

Saturn in Scorpio This new cycle signals a need to recognize that there are powers beyond your control, that things are not what they seem on the surface. Trying to stay in control and on top only sets you up for a fall. There is a need for the resources of others. Failure to recognize this and deal with it can stop you in your tracks.

Saturn in Sagittarius The new phase now beginning in your life brings a need to break out of narrow concepts and legalistic philosophical or religious ideas. Remember: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds." Opportunities to broaden your mental horizons may not come with ease, but they are essential if you are to avoid a kind of spiritual stagnation.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...

The interpretations in this box are from the Day Watch software.
