A LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Saturday, September 5, 2015, at 5:54 AM EDT.

On Saturday morning, the Last Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Virgo squares the Moon in Gemini. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week's Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us--and what doesn't--in preparation for next week's New Moon, when something new is born once again. This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It's time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?

This phase of the Moon occurs at 12 degrees and 31 minutes of Gemini square the Sun at 12 degrees and 31 minutes of Virgo, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 11 to 15 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)

The Sun is in Virgo; Mercury is in Libra; Venus is in Leo; Mars is in Leo.

The Sun is in Virgo from August 23-September 23. Our focus shifts to the pieces of the puzzle--the little details of our lives. It is now time to take care of practical concerns. Tending to the details of everyday life may not sound like loads of fun, but it can certainly free us from unnecessary stress that results from "collecting" odds and ends of unfinished business. This is an ideal time to get organized, to do detail work, and to improve communications on the job.

Mercury is in Libra from August 27-November 2. When Mercury is in Libra, we are diplomatic and friendly. During this cycle, we are able to bring a more rational approach to one-to-one relationships. It's a good time to think about ways of improving our negotiation skills. In an attempt to see both sides of any given situation, Mercury in Libra can be a vacillating energy. It can be more challenging than usual to make quick decisions, as we can sit "on the fence". We may too easily accommodate others' opinions in order to keep the peace. In our negotiations, we don't want to assert ourselves in such a way as to appear to be the "bad guy". However, this is a good period for considering others' points of view. We are more inclined to arrive at fair conclusions.

Venus is in Leo from July 31-October 8. Venus is retrograde from July 25th to September 6th, and will move through its post-retrograde shadow until October 9th. Love is magnificent and grand while Venus is in Leo. We take pride in love, and we are generous with our money as well. This is a warmhearted, teasing, expressive, proud, and extravagant placement for Venus. Love is a bit of a game--a game that is perpetual, as Venus in Leo is forever stuck in the romance stage of a relationship. We feed on attention, acknowledgement, validation, and adoration. Venus in Leo loves to be adored, pampered, and admired. Pride and passion are hallmarks of this cycle. We have a strong ego investment in our love lives during this period. The negative expression of this placement is overstating our feelings simply for the effect, as well as extravagance.

Mars in Leo from August 8-September 24. In Leo, Mars is proud, self-confident, and grand. We are spirited and have grand goals. We go after what we want in a direct, self-assured manner, desiring dramatic results. We prefer not to worry about details, and take the least complicated route to our goals. The sex drive is strong, and passion for life is high.

Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015 to December 20, 2017. Saturn re-entered Scorpio on June 14 and continues to transit Scorpio until September 17, 2015. Read about Saturn's transit through Sagittarius here. Read about Saturn's transit through Scorpio here.

Jupiter entered Virgo last week, on August 11th, and will transit Virgo until September 9, 2016. Read about Jupiter in Virgo here.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Venus is retrograde from July 25 to September 6, 2015.

As the planet of love and values, Venus retrograde periods are times when we re-assess what—and who—we value. It is a period that many astrologers consider inopportune for getting married or starting a major new relationship. Major financial undertakings are generally not advised during this period as well. Venus retrograde cycles are good times for creating budgets and financial plans, and for re-thinking our personal relationships.

Because Venus rules beauty and aesthetics, Venus Retrograde is a less than ideal time for beautification processes (new hairdos, enhancements, purchasing a new wardrobe, cosmetic surgery, and so forth), renovations, re-decorating, and the like. Because Venus is associated with social events, parties may not go as planned.

On the subject of love, past lovers may re-appear and some relationships may end. With Venus in Leo for much of its retrograde cycle, our needs for attention may be especially strong. We may question the romance factor in our current relationships. With Venus in Virgo for some of this retrograde cycle, the tendency to focus on flaws (and to criticize) may be strong.

Old friends and lovers may re-appear, perhaps complicating current relationships. We are called upon to deal with relationship issues from the past. Events occur that seem fated or pre-destined. It can be a real challenge getting close to a lover during this period of time. Unorthodox, experimental, and non-intimate relationships may be favored.

Affection is difficult to express in a natural or spontaneous manner. We might find others are lacking in sincerity or genuineness in their expressions of social niceties. (We may be inclined to do the same!).

Some of the more negative associations of Venus in Leo may be particularly prominent and/or hard to take, and these include egoism, buying affection, or haughtiness. Those who have Leo strong in their charts may be more introspective, distant, or hard to reach during this cycle. They may not be in as favorable light just for the time being.

Relationships that have been especially challenging may come to an end during this cycle. However, strong relationships will survive it, even if there are a few bumps and bruises along the way. For singles, this is a good time for "eyes wide open" or experimental dating. It is not a time when people recognize the need for another person to "complete" them, and some people may be questioning whether they are with partners who actually fulfill them. This period is good for re-evaluating our relationship needs; but major love decisions are best saved for after the cycle ends beyond September 6th, and perhaps beyond the shadow phase as well (after October 9th). Our perceptions may be skewed and we can come out of the retrograde cycle with regret if we have acted hastily, as the tendency to change our minds later is strong.

On the subject of money, finances, and possessions, do try to hold off on major purchases or financial decisions during this Venus retrograde cycle. For example, the purchase of a new house, car, or other big-ticket item could backfire in some manner later on. They may become money pits or cause problems for you; or you may change your mind later and regret your purchase.

At the time that Venus forms an inferior conjunction with the Sun (August 15th), relationship issues are magnified. Fateful events can occur now. This is equivalent in feel to a New Moon but marks the beginning of a new Venus cycle. We are symbolically in the dark during the retrograde, but starting fresh and re-energized from this date forward. There is impulsiveness and lack of preparation now. More on Venus Retrograde here.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Leo from July 31-October 8. Venus is retrograde from July 25th to September 6th, and will move through its post-retrograde shadow until October 9th. Love is magnificent and grand!

This week: Venus aligns with Mars overnight from August 31st to September 1st, stimulating warm, lively, and passionate energy, although possibly some impulsiveness and aggravation if we are not getting what we want. In some cases this impulsive energy generates "love at first sight" scenarios or erotic interludes. Some level of competition is present in our interactions, but it's likely of a pleasurable and gently challenging kind. Impulsive decisions are possible now.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Leo July 31-October 8. Romance becomes an end in itself as a new cycle begins for you. It marks a time when love, creativity, and self-expression satisfy a deep yearning to be appreciated and admired - needed, even. A flashy, flirty, stylish splash of color and warmth.
Venus semi-square Mercury August 28. Communications between lovers can be superficial and unsatisfying, and perhaps awkward. Superficiality in romantic expression may exist now.
Venus parallel the Sun August 29-30. A strong desire for harmony and comfort fill us now. We may be moved to express our affections.
Venus conjunct Mars August 31-September 1. This is a passionate, warm, expressive, lively and sexy energy. We are now able to take the initiative to achieve harmony and sexual fulfillment. This influence brings satisfaction to the feelings. Our creativity and desire to make something beautiful is stimulated now. We are more able to combine warmth with energy. Social relations are impassioned, and perhaps demanding or extreme. In some cases this impulsive energy generates "love at first sight" scenarios or erotic interludes. Team work is more successful now. Some level of competition is present in our interactions, but it's likely of a pleasurable and gently challenging kind. Impulsive purchases are possible.
Venus contraparallel Neptune August 31-September 1.
Venus parallel Jupiter September 7-8. We are charitable with others and have a stronger desire than usual to find meaning in our relationships. There may be some overstating or overindulgence now, however.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Monday, August 31st, from 2:54 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aries at 4:34 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Tuesday, September 1st, from 12:38 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Uranus), until the Moon enters Taurus the next day, Wednesday, September 2nd, at 5:03 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Friday, September 4th, from 6:21 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Saturn), until the Moon enters Gemini at 7:49 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Saturday, September 5th, from 7:05 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Uranus), until the Moon enters Cancer the next day, Sunday, September 6th, at 1:41 PM EDT.

Timing with the Moon - Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives

The Moon is waning this week  - a period that is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).

According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs from Saturday, August 29th, at approximately 7:20 PM EDT, until Monday, August 31st, at approximately 2:50 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Pisces. Another window occurs on Saturday, September 5th, from approximately 7 AM to 7 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Gemini. Keep in mind that Venus is retrograde during these windows, the latter of which as Venus approaches its station.

This Week's Calendar

This Week's Aspects

SunOppositionNeptune Sun opposition Neptune. It's easy to get lost in fantasy at this time, as we feel somewhat directionless and less able to face everyday realities. Willpower is low. Not a good time for any financial undertaking or formal agreement.

conjunctMars Venus conjunct Mars. This transit generates a passionate, warm, expressive, lively, and sexy energy. We may also feel compelled to do something creative or artistic. In some cases this impulsive energy generates "love at first sight" scenarios or erotic interludes. The erotic impulses of love, desire, and sexuality are a highly charged focus of our attention. Expressing our passions in harmonious and pleasing ways is the focus. This is a time of balancing and integrating yin and yang energies within ourselves. We have a chance to express our needs, passions, and desires now in effective ways. Venus is diplomatic, gentle, romantic, and sensitive, while Mars is more forceful, sexual, and assertive. Venus can act to soften Mars' aggressiveness, or Mars can make Venus' romantic impulses more forceful and pressing. Team work is more successful now. Some level of competition is present in our interactions, but it's likely of a pleasurable and gently challenging kind. Impulsive purchases are possible.

JupiterUranus Jupiter sesquiquadrate Uranus. This influence is a restless one. We could find it difficult to agree with others, or to find common ground. We need to be willing to make changes in our lives now, or change will be forced upon us. This is a rebellious, restless influence--one in which we should avoid making changes just for the sake of making changes. We might take risks (perhaps foolish ones) for the sake of freedom. This is not a good time for financial speculation or travel. This is a time during which we can open ourselves up to new ways of thinking. However, we could also too easily avoid taking responsibility for things that truly matter.

Mercury Mercury quincunx Neptune. There can be uncertainty and indecision now, as it can be difficult to draw upon intuition or to combine logic and intuition in a cohesive manner. Alternatively, the tendency to daydream can be high, and often at the expense of productivity and clear communication.

SuntrinePluto Sun trine Pluto. We are able to get to the bottom of things now. We are more decisive than usual, and our abilities to concentrate and focus help us achieve what we set out to do. Endurance, the power to achieve, an opportunity to draw upon our past and to capitalize on resources, and strategy are all themes of this influence. This is a very positive aspect for starting a money-making endeavor (all things equal) or a new project. Leadership skills are in focus and strong. We are more able to connect with others in terms of shared goals and interests. The focus now is on eliminating negative or superficial elements in our lives.

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)

AUGUST 30
The Moon is in intuitive, dreamy Pisces all day, and we are more spiritually aware and sensitive. Boundaries dissolve, and we are especially idealistic. We can also be evasive and shy away from conflict, especially direct confrontation, under this influence. We are inclined to daydream and perhaps stray from our regular routine a little. Paying attention to details is not a Pisces Moon preference. Today is also strong for taking action towards healing, cleansing, guiding, or teaching. We can feel energized and inspired creatively today.

AUGUST 31
The Moon finishes its transit of Pisces at 4:34 AM EDT, when it enters Aries. Today, the Sun opposes Neptune and retrograde Venus aligns with Mars. This is creative energy, but with some confusion involved. It's easy to get lost in fantasy at this time, as we feel somewhat directionless and less able to face everyday realities. We may be letting someone else take the lead, but we could misrepresent ourselves now by giving up our power. We are more sensitive and vulnerable, but also quite prone to misperceiving people or situations. Even so, our desire nature is stronger than usual. Relationships can be impassioned but perhaps demanding or vaguely unfulfilling, particularly if we are expecting too much from them. Impulsive purchases and flirtations are possible now.

A void of course Moon occurs from 2:54 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aries at 4:34 AM EDT.

SEPTEMBER 1
Venus aligns with Mars shortly into the day, and desires can come on powerfully, although they may not be easy to fulfill. There can be a focus on past relationships, and perhaps some impulsiveness and desire to take action on our new perspective on the past. The Moon is in Aries all day, further reinforcing a strong desire to start fresh. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. Our feelings and desires are fiery, immediate, and hard to ignore. This is an independent energy - we want to do things on our own and be the first one to do them.

A void of course Moon occurs from 12:38 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Uranus), until the Moon enters Taurus tomorrow, Wednesday, September 2nd, at 5:03 AM EDT.

SEPTEMBER 2
The Moon continues its transit of Aries until 5:03 AM EDT, when it enters Taurus. The Taurus Moon is one of the more even-tempered positions, and we may be seeking out comfort, familiarity, security, and pleasure more than anything. However, Jupiter forms a sesquiquadrate with Uranus today, and this influence is a restless one. We could find it difficult to find common ground with people around us. We might take risks for the sake of freedom, and should watch that these are not foolish ones. We don't want to feel boxed in or restricted now. This is a time during which we can open ourselves up to new ways of thinking. However, we could also too easily avoid taking responsibility for things that truly matter.

The Moon ends its void period when it enters Taurus today at 5:03 AM EDT.

SEPTEMBER 3
The Moon is in constant Taurus all day, and our emotions are steady for the most. Common sense tends to rule when it comes to handling domestic matters, money, and work. Earthy activities and sensual pleasures appeal now more than usual, and we find a sense of peace and contentment with that which is familiar and reliable. We instinctively know that patience is required for matters to naturally move forward. Later today, Mercury forms a quincunx with Neptune. There can be uncertainty and indecision now, as it can be difficult to draw upon intuition or to combine logic and intuition in a cohesive manner. Alternatively, the tendency to daydream can be high, and seems to be at the expense of productivity and/or clear communication.

SEPTEMBER 4

A void of course Moon occurs from 6:21 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Saturn), until the Moon enters Gemini at 7:49 AM EDT.

SEPTEMBER 5

A void of course Moon occurs from 7:05 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Uranus), until the Moon enters Cancer tomorrow, Sunday, September 6th, at 1:41 PM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Pisces

MoonPiscesWe are not inclined to want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.

The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.

When the Moon is in Aries

MoonAriesWe're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to start something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.

The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.

When the Moon is in Taurus

MoonTaurusWe are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses". Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.

The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.

When the Moon is in Gemini

MoonGeminiOur basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.

The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, short trips.

When the Moon is in...Transits of the Moon through the Signs.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Virgo You're coming into a new cycle centered on taking what you know and what you've got and then making the most of it in the real world. Assimilating information and experience, learning lessons and putting them into practice - that's the focus as this cycle unfolds. It's a time for prudence and stewardship, a time to tend to the details. You probably already have the grand ideals and visions: now you must get your hands dirty with the bricks and mortar and your mind busy with putting it all together.

Mercury in Libra A new cycle begins for you, signaling a greater than usual interest in relationships, social connections, and the arts - on a more intellectual level than in the past, most likely. Seeing both sides of an issue, and figuring out resolutions to opposing views: these things take on more importance in your life.

Venus in Leo Romance becomes an end in itself as a new cycle begins for you. It marks a time when love, creativity, and self-expression satisfy a deep yearning to be appreciated and admired - needed, even. A flashy, flirty, stylish splash of color and warmth.

Mars in Leo The thrill of the chase, the smell of the greasepaint, the roar of the crowd: that's what gets your juices flowing now that you've entered a new cycle. To be appreciated, to be admired (adored, even) - that's what you crave. It's a time of creativity, drama, and passion; a time when grabbing the spotlight and stealing the scene gives you a thrill. Is winning everything? No - but it's way ahead of whatever comes in second!

Jupiter in Virgo "To serve and protect" is the motto that best fits the cycle that now dawns in your life. Taking better care of such material concerns as work and health becomes an article of faith. You see the big picture where these things are concerned and realize that it can only come together when all the details are in place. Sometimes, in trying to get these details all lined up, you might lose sight of your objective. Remember: Look beyond the trees to see the forest.

Saturn in Scorpio This new cycle signals a need to recognize that there are powers beyond your control, that things are not what they seem on the surface. Trying to stay in control and on top only sets you up for a fall. There is a need for the resources of others. Failure to recognize this and deal with it can stop you in your tracks.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...
