A NEW MOON occurs on Monday, February 8, 2016, at 9:39 AM EST.

On Monday morning, a New Moon occurs, marking the beginning of a new cycle. In the sign of Aquarius, friendship, brotherhood, group activities, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, humanitarian efforts, or joining a group will be a strong focus on a personal level. New beginnings regarding all of these matters are possible now.

This is a time during which we should solve problems that require thinking "outside of the box"; look to the future with a brand new, positive, and hopeful vision; brainstorm and socialize; focus on extending a friendly hand, receiving support, and expressing platonic love for those around us; give our emotions and passions a "break", as we develop more objectivity and some detachment from past haunts; learn how something (or someone) works; revitalize ourselves through experiences that are new or simply different; reach out to people in our social circle and in our community, and recognize the value of our friendships and social networks; recognize that some level of detachment and distancing ourselves from our habits and attachment to the past will help us break away from destructive behaviors that are holding us back. With this potent Aquarius energy, we have the chance to make progressive changes in our lives. For some of us, circumstances are such that we need to pay more attention to these matters.

This New Moon's square to Mars emphasizes the impulsive energy of a New Moon. However, we have the opportunity to come up with very workable ideas that are also innovative.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 19 degrees and 16 minutes of Aquarius, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 15 to 23 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)

The Sun is in Aquarius; Mercury is in Capricorn until the 13th, when it enters Aquarius; Venus is in Capricorn; Mars is in Scorpio.

The Sun is in Aquarius from January 20-February 19. During this cycle, we are motivated by our hunger for knowledge, experience, and originality. Innovation is more important to us than convention. We become more aware of what is outdated in our lives, and strive to find new perspectives and new ways to do things. The class distinctions, structure, and order that Capricorn finds appealing now seem to be too rigid. The freedom of the individual becomes far more significant to us. We strive to free ourselves from some of the restrictions, inhibitions, and limitations that now feel constraining rather than safe.

Mercury is in Capricorn from January 8-February 13. When Mercury is in Capricorn, our thinking is methodical and our focus is sober and practical. It is easier to concentrate on the task at hand under this influence. Our conversations may be quite realistic or focused on business/practical matters. Our thought patterns and communication styles become more logical, orderly, and organized. We are more able to sort out what is relevant and essential. Realism enters the picture, our speech is no-nonsense, and precision becomes important to us. We need to be wary of becoming too rigid in our thinking. We may come across as cold or harsh. For some, there is fine line between realism and pessimism.

Mercury is in Aquarius from February 13-March 5. When Mercury is in Aquarius, we are hungry for knowledge and open to new and original ideas. We begin to think outside of the box, and our thinking becomes more progressive and objective. Our communication and thought patterns are spontaneous, somewhat fragmented, and liberal. This is a time when inventive thinking is at a peak.

Venus is in Capricorn from January 23-February 16. Getting serious about our finances and boosting our relations with business partners and/or co-workers will be easier than usual under this influence. Our talents for creating artistic structure and form are enhanced, and our ability to form connections with people who support our ambitions is increased. We value enduring connections, reliability, and faithfulness. We take expressing our feelings seriously, and we take our time to warm up to others. We generally keep our "cool" in relationships.

Mars in Scorpio from January 3-March 5. In Scorpio, Mars is driven and focused on getting what it wants. We are persevering, single-minded, and strong. The desire to experience our emotional depths, as well as the urge to penetrate the surface of life in order to explore deeper levels of existence, is powerful. We are fascinated with what others tend to repress, and are drawn to experiencing and understanding these things. We are less inclined to avoid important issues now. In some ways, we are attracted to crisis, as we see crisis as transformative and emotionally exciting. We would rather feel extreme emotions than nothing at all, as mediocrity or the "middle road" is felt to be unsatisfying.

Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015 to December 20, 2017. Read about Saturn's transit through Sagittarius here.

Jupiter entered Virgo on August 11th, and will transit Virgo until September 9, 2016. Read about Jupiter in Virgo here.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Romance & Relationships

Venus
is in Capricorn from January 23-February 16. Venus in Capricorn is a cycle in which security and stability in our relationships is paramount. We are more cautious with our emotions, and somewhat skeptical of both our own feelings and others' expressions of affection. Longevity is important to us under this influence. There is a formality to Capricorn that can make personal expressions seem awkward and forced. However, this cycle offers us the opportunity to consider some of the practical issues of our relations and to work on making our partnerships work in the real world. A dose of realism in our personal lives can help us to feel more grounded and secure in the long run.

This week: There are some quite wonderful aspects involving Venus this week. On Sunday and Monday, Venus forms a sextile with Mars and then Chiron, we're tuned in to one another, seeking out pleasure and connection, and interested in sharing our happiness. We are open to romantic feelings and more willing to act upon them. Then, on Tuesday and Wednesday, the two benefics, Venus and Jupiter, form a trine - a fine aspect for connecting harmoniously, proudly, and happily with others. Venus also forms a trine with the North Node of the Moon (true) and we may be drawn to growth-oriented, fortunate unions.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Capricorn January 23-February 16. Marry for money and then learn to love 'em: that's what your heart tells you now, as a new cycle gets underway in your life. Does that sound cynical? Maybe so - but it does reflect the yearning you feel for security and stability now, and it suggests the kind of compromises you may be willing to make to accomplish these objectives.
Venus conjunct Pluto February 5. An extraordinarily passionate time for relationships. We are focused and confident. There is a tendency to want--and to demand--a lot from a partnership or friendship. Powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions. Relationships begun under this influence are intense and passionate, deep and far from superficial, and can be quite possessive as well.
Venus square Uranus February 6. We might have to deal with issues of freedom versus intimacy during this period. Peculiar or impulsive attractions are exciting, but unlikely to last very long. Treat them as passing fancies, and enjoy them while they last--but try to hold off on making any big decisions with regards to love today.
Venus sextile Mars February 6-7. This points to success and ease in close personal interactions. We are passionate and sexy. It is a good time for financial ventures, social life, artistic pursuits, romance, and pleasure. We are now able to take the initiative and to achieve harmony and sexual fulfillment. This influence brings satisfaction to the feelings. We may make permanent ties or relationships that prove to be fruitful and fortunate.
Venus sextile Chiron February 7-8. Love has the power to heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings and more willing to act upon them.
Venus trine Jupiter February 9-10. Harmony and good will reign under this influence. Expansive feelings in love, and a feeling that anything is possible if we set our sights high enough, are experienced now. We are friendly, big-hearted, sociable, and optimistic. It is easy to make social contacts under this influence. Cheerfulness, trust, and confidence in love and social matters.
Venus trine North Node February 9-10. We are more concerned about harmonizing and tend to be agreeable and cooperative. We could feel lucky in love, and we could meet someone who is good for us. Fortunate connections might be made now.
Venus semi-square Neptune February 11. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.
Venus parallel Saturn February 12-13. We may express our affection sparingly, but also responsibly and in practical ways. Relationships begun under this influence often feel burdensome over time, but they may last longer than most.
Venus parallel Pluto February 13. The desire for drama and intensity in relationships is with us. Love feelings and relationship issues can be all-consuming now, assuming more importance in our lives than usual. Interactions with others are intense now, and themes of sharing and trust dominate in relationships.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Saturday, February 6th, from 10:54 AM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Aquarius the next day, Sunday, February 7th, at 1:00 AM EST.

VOC Moon on Monday, February 8th, from 9:40 AM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to the Sun), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Tuesday, February 9th, at 3:32 AM EST.

VOC Moon on Wednesday, February 10th, from 11:26 PM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mercury), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Thursday, February 11th, at 4:56 AM EST.

VOC Moon on Saturday, February 13th, from 5:34 AM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mercury), until the Moon enters Taurus at 6:37 AM EST.

This Week's Calendar

This Week's Aspects

Sun square Mars. We have "spring fever" no matter what the season. Driven by a restless desire to do something, without a well-defined goal we tend towards impulsive actions and get ourselves into needless arguments. Our reactions tend to be defensive or competitive. We are not very willing to compromise or negotiate. We are more inclined to injury and accident. Energy output can run high if we choose to focus.

sextileMars Venus sextile Mars. This points to success and ease in close personal interactions. We are feeling passionate, warm, expressive, lively and sexy. Our creativity and desire to make something beautiful is stimulated now.

Venussextile Venus sextile Chiron. We have the chance to heal our personal relationships now, as we are more open to intimacy and commitment, as well as learning from one another. We more easily see beauty in human weaknesses. It's a strong time for building trust in relationships.

Mercurysemi-squareNeptune Mercury semi-square Neptune. We are not thinking clearly, preferring to daydream. Technical facts can be glossed over at this time. It's not a good time to make a presentation, to ask for what you want, or to formalize agreements.

MarstrineChiron Mars trine Chiron. We may have the opportunity to take the lead, or to take action, regarding matters that lead to healing, cleansing, or teaching now. We can feel a sense of mission now. There is likely to be a feeling of fearlessness when it comes to addressing problem areas, and self-confidence as well. There is a drive to take positive action, usually to defend or help others (or ourselves). It's a strong period for cooperation and purposeful activity.

trine Venus trine Jupiter. Friendliness and optimism characterize this transit. We are big-hearted and our feelings are expansive. The outlook is cheerful and hopeful and the atmosphere is cooperative. This is a sociable, perhaps lazy and self-indulgent, time. We easily find meaning in our social connections. We are more open and trusting of friends and lovers. Integrity and loyalty are favored. A favorable influence for winning people's trust. Speculation, advertising, publishing, and travel are favored.

Sunquincunx Sun inconjunct (quincunx) Jupiter. The desire to experience something new or for more freedom to explore can amount to restlessness if we don't know what it is we want. This is a time of adjustments, and perhaps of letting go of old habits, so that we can free ourselves up for different experiences.

VenusSemi-squareNeptune Venus semi-square Neptune. Happiness is addictive under this influence. We tend to see what we want to see. Glossing over the more realistic points, details, and flaws of circumstances and of people provides us with instant gratification. However, it's wise to hold off on making important purchases, or natalizing a relationship until the veil lifts. Take care with legal, financial, and social involvements, contracts, or formal agreements under this dreamy influence.

MarssextileJupiter Mars sextile Jupiter. Decisive action comes naturally now. We possess willpower, verve, and energy that we can direct toward achieving our goals. Success in contracts, negotiations, and business deals comes easily. We want to branch out and take on more challenges. A good time for making new goals or to initiate new projects (all things equal). Optimism and enthusiasm; adventurous spirit. Positive attitudes create winning situations now. A spirit of friendly competition prevails, as well as the desire to take beneficial action.

Mercury Mercury semi-square Saturn. Red tape, re-doing tasks we thought we had finished, problems getting from point A to point B, delays in communication, negative thinking, hyper-sensitivity and criticism--these are all potentials now. The energy is best used for focusing on fixing errors rather than harping on how irritating they are!

FEBRUARY 7
The Moon ends its transit of Capricorn at 1:00 AM EST, when it enters Aquarius. A Sun-Mars square this morning can stir up impulsiveness. We have "spring fever" well before the season. Driven by a restless desire to do something, without a well-defined goal we tend towards impulsive actions and get ourselves into needless arguments. Our reactions tend to be defensive or competitive. We are not very willing to compromise or negotiate. We are more inclined to injury and accident under this influence. Energy output can run high if we choose to focus. Helping us along is a Venus-Mars sextile that encourages cooperation. Our desire to harmonize, create something wonderful, and connect creatively with others may help soften some of the rough edges.

The Moon ends its void period at 1:00 AM EST when it enters Aquarius.

FEBRUARY 8
An early morning sextile between Venus and Chiron softens our disposition, and might offer us a chance to heal our personal relationships. We more easily see beauty in human weaknesses. A New Moon occurs in the sign of Aquarius at 9:40 AM EST, marking the beginning of a new cycle. Friendship, brotherhood, group activities, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, humanitarian efforts, or joining a group can come into strong focus. However, we have the opportunity to come up with very workable ideas that are also innovative. The Moon is in Aquarius all day.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Capricorn

MoonCapricornrWe become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.

The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.

When the Moon is in Aquarius

MoonAquarius Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.

The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.

When the Moon is in Pisces

MoonPiscesWe are not inclined to want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.

The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.

When the Moon is in Aries

MoonAriesWe're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to start something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.

The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.

When the Moon is in Taurus

MoonTaurusWe are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses". Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.

The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Aquarius This is a time when your path of self-development and expression becomes more and more unusual - setting you apart from the crowd and from all that is traditional. The new, the futuristic, the high-tech are the hallmarks of your lifestyle as the cycle gets underway. Ideas and technologies that change the way people live - not just one person, but many - are a major new focus in your life. Involvement with ideals and idealistic groups enhances your sense of purpose and mission.

Mercury in Capricorn Figuring out how to organize projects and people is apt to become a topic of special interest - and a challenge - at a time like this. Opinions are not enough for you now: they must be backed by authority or evidence, and above all they must have practical worth and application. A period of intense study and thought.

Mercury in Aquarius The tried and true doesn't cut it anymore: it's the new, the unique, and the original that catches and holds your interest now. Idealism, rationality, and critical thinking become more and more a part of your mental patterns and the way you communicate. You are inventive, original, high tech.

Venus in Capricorn Marry for money and then learn to love 'em: that's what your heart tells you now, as a new cycle gets underway in your life. Does that sound cynical? Maybe so - but it does reflect the yearning you feel for security and stability now, and it suggests the kind of compromises you may be willing to make to accomplish these objectives.

Mars in Scorpio Tear it down and build it up again, reach in and pluck out the offending element: that's what the new cycle you have entered is like. Power becomes a compelling idea, perhaps even an aphrodisiac - and you've got a stronger than usual supply of it now. Use it, don't abuse it - or you might find that it's a two-edged sword!

Jupiter in Virgo "To serve and protect" is the motto that best fits the cycle that now dawns in your life. Taking better care of such material concerns as work and health becomes an article of faith. You see the big picture where these things are concerned and realize that it can only come together when all the details are in place. Sometimes, in trying to get these details all lined up, you might lose sight of your objective. Remember: Look beyond the trees to see the forest.

Saturn in Sagittarius The new phase now beginning in your life brings a need to break out of narrow concepts and legalistic philosophical or religious ideas. Remember: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds." Opportunities to broaden your mental horizons may not come with ease, but they are essential if you are to avoid a kind of spiritual stagnation.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...
