A LAST QUARTER Moon occurs on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at 3:12 PM EDT.

Wednesday afternoon, the Last Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Libra squares the Moon in Cancer. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week's Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us--and what doesn't--in preparation for next week's New Moon, when something new is born once again. This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It's time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon on September 24th. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?

This phase of the Moon occurs at 22 degrees and 21 minutes of Cancer square the Sun at 22 degrees and 21 minutes of Libra, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 20 to 24 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)

The Sun is in Libra; Mercury is in Libra; Venus is in Libra; Mars is in Sagittarius.

The Sun is in Libra from September 22-October 23. Libra rules relationships with others as mirrors of ourselves. Meeting others halfway, compromise, and negotiation come under the rule of Libra. The focus is now on balance--finding balance and harmony through relationships with others and through art. Libra is the sign of the peacemaker. However, life is not always peaceful with Libra in its attempt to restore balance. Decision-making can be more challenging while the Sun is in Libra. Libra weighs both sides of any situation, and sometimes this process seems endless! In Libra, the Sun is concerned about not rocking the boat and not rubbing others the wrong way. Tactfulness, style, tolerance, and sociability are some of the keywords for Libra. On the shadow side, Libra can be self-serving, indecisive, passive-aggressive, and superficial.

Mercury is in Libra from October 10-November 8. Retrograde Mercury moved back into Libra on October 10th. When Mercury is in Libra, we are diplomatic and friendly. During this cycle, we are able to bring a more rational approach to one-to-one relationships. It's a good time to think about ways of improving our negotiation skills. In an attempt to see both sides of any given situation, Mercury in Libra can be a vacillating energy. It can be more challenging than usual to make quick decisions, as we can sit "on the fence". We may too easily accommodate others' opinions in order to keep the peace. In our negotiations, we don't want to assert ourselves in such a way as to appear to be the "bad guy". However, this is a good period for considering others' points of view. We are more inclined to arrive at fair conclusions.

Venus is in Libra September 29-October 23. We are more inclined to employ charm rather than aggressive behavior in order to get what we want during this cycle. Although Venus in Libra virtually lives for relationships, there is an air of cool detachment to this energy. We are very obliging with others--quite willing to negotiate and compromise. We can be especially idealistic about love. We prefer things be done the "right" way, and are turned off by aggressive or uncouth behavior. The shadow side of this position is dependency, inconsistency, and superficiality. In an attempt to avoid unpleasant situations, we could easily gloss over deeper issues at play in our relationships. It's probably best to avoid the trap of acquiescing to our partners but privately resenting the fact or thinking ourselves martyrs for doing so! This is also a time when we are more artistically inclined. We tend to seek balance in our personal environment.

Mars is in Sagittarius from September 13-October 26. With a Sagittarius Mars, our actions are motivated by our ideals. We are bothered by routine, quickly becoming restless if we feel confined. We have a love of adventure, and of conquest--this is the position of wanderlust. We start projects or challenges with gusto, although we may tend to abandon them rather quickly. This may be because we set our sights too high!

Saturn entered Scorpio on October 5, 2012 and will transit the sign until 2015. Read about Saturn's transit through Scorpio here.

Jupiter entered Leo on July 16th, where it will transit until August 11th, 2015. Read about Jupiter's transit through Leo here.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Libra from September 29-October 23. Venus rules Libra and thus is dignified in the sign. Venus feels right "at home" in Libra, where she seeks to balance and harmonize. With Venus in Libra, we can easily be in love with love. We are more comfortable with a close partner with whom we can seek to have a balanced relationship. We are more inclined to employ charm rather than aggressive behavior in order to get what we want.

This week: On Monday and Tuesday, a sweet Venus-Jupiter aspect subtly increases our willingness to make connections, mingle, and enjoy ourselves. There is friendliness and a desire to harmonize. Wednesday's Venus-Neptune challenge can pull up some questions as to whether our affections are based on fantasy or not. Friday is strong for analyzing our feelings, although we may intellectualize them too much. Communications are in the spotlight, and the tendency now is to talk about past relationships or matters that have not been resolved in current ones.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Libra September 29-October 23. As this new cycle takes hold in your life, romance and social interaction take on a greater importance for you. Harmonious ties to others are what you yearn for; refinement and elegance are what you seek. The ideal partnership, the perfect balance, the highest standards of truth and beauty - these are some of the things that quicken your pulse now.
Venus quincunx Chiron October 10. There may be vague feelings of discontent in relationships; or a choice that needs to be made regarding personal relationships, money, or possessions. Insecurity involving others might make it awkward for us to express our affections naturally or flowingly.
Venus opposition Uranus October 10-11. Not a good time to start relationships. Independence is the reigning need. Some fickleness. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness.
Venus sextile Jupiter October 13-14. This aspect generates a happy, friendly, and optimistic attitude. People are a little more outgoing and sociable. Favors travel, education, and culture. Romantic opportunities. Harmony and good will.
Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune October 15. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.
Venus conjunct Mercury October 17. Favors playfulness in love and enhanced communication between partners.
Venus parallel Mercury October 19. A congenial time when we appreciate diplomacy and socialize more readily.
Venus sextile Mars October 19-20. This points to success and ease in close personal interactions. We are passionate and sexy. It is a good time for financial ventures, social life, artistic pursuits, romance, and pleasure. We are now able to take the initiative and to achieve harmony and sexual fulfillment. This influence brings satisfaction to the feelings. We may make permanent ties or relationships that prove to be fruitful and fortunate.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Monday, October 13th, from 1:59 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mercury), until the Moon enters Cancer at 7:31 PM EDT.

VOC Moon on Wednesday, October 15th, from 7:27 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mercury), until the Moon enters Leo the next day, Thursday, October 16th, at 6:30 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Saturday, October 18th, from 9:11 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to the Moon), until the Moon enters Virgo at 7:09 PM EDT.

Void of Course Moon Table for October 2014:

Timing with the Moon - Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives

The Moon is waning this week - a period that is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).

According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs on Monday, October 13th, from approx. 5 AM to 1:55 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Gemini. Another window occurs on Saturday, October 18th, from approximately 4:30 EDT to 9:10 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Leo. Mercury is retrograde during both windows, however.

This Week's Calendar

This Week's Aspects

SunSesquiquadrateNeptune Sun sesquiquadrate Neptune. Our willpower is low as we stray from our goals and temporarily lose focus. It's difficult to formulate -- or stick to -- clear goals during this transit. Concentrating on artistic or spiritual pursuits is better than focusing on matters that require straightforward, factual thinking today. It can be difficult knowing where or how to direct our willpower under this influence. It's also a challenge knowing where we stand with others. Avoid such things as scheduling surgery, important appointments, job interviews, or launches of new projects at this time.

Venus sextile Jupiter. Cooperation, consideration for others, cheerfulness, positive attitude towards relationships, romantic opportunities, harmony. Favors financial endeavors. Optimistic spiritual energy is brought to relationships. We tend to connect to a higher purpose regarding our personal relationships and our values, attaching meaning to them. We may enjoy a feeling of well-being now. Ease is experienced in social situations. We are freer with our affections (and our money). This is also a favorable transit for entertaining and socializing.

SunsextileMars Sun sextile Mars. We are able to creatively solve problems and to instinctively take action when necessary under this influence. Stress is eased as we feel confident about our abilities and our judgment. We are more able to assert ourselves without rubbing people the wrong way.

VenusSesquiquadrateNeptune Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune. Happiness is addictive under this influence. We tend to see what we want to see. Glossing over the more realistic points, details, and flaws of circumstances and of people provides us with instant gratification. However, it's wise to hold off on making important purchases, or natalizing a relationship until the veil lifts. Take care with legal, financial, and social involvements, contracts, or formal agreements under this dreamy influence.

MercuryconjunctSun Mercury conjunct Sun. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It's a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse!

MercurySextileMars Mercury sextile Mars. Mental alertness, enthusiasm, and energetic communications figure now. Quick decisions can be made. We are productive and take "busy-ness" in stride. We are alert and aware, and can easily turn ideas into workable projects.

Mercury conjunct Venus. Lighthearted conversations, sociability, humor, cooperation. Good time for socializing and for communicating with ease, telling others how we feel, and negotiating. Mentally, we're not as disciplined as usual, as we prefer to chat with others and to think about more "pleasant" things than work. Generally favorable for commerce.

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)

OCTOBER 12
The Moon is in Gemini all day and harmonizing with Uranus, Jupiter, and Venus this afternoon. We are ready to communicate, curious about one another, and inclined to share our ideas and good humor lightheartedly today. We might challenge each other, mostly gently, with Venus contraparallel Uranus exact today and encouraging us to catch on to new trends and styles, and to give one another personal space and freedom. The Sun aligns with the True North Node of the Moon today, and there is a strong sense that we are moving forward, as well as a desire for a healthy challenge.

OCTOBER 13
The Moon is in Gemini until 7:31 PM EDT, and we are inclined to want to make contact with others and to learn about the goings-on around us. This morning, a dynamic aspect between the Sun and Neptune can point to a relaxing of boundaries and a temporary loss of clarity or a questioning of our goals. The Moon enters Cancer at 7:31 PM, where the Moon feels especially comfortable and functions at its best. We are more concerned with personal and family matters during this transit. Venus and Jupiter are nearing a harmonious sextile, exact early tomorrow, stimulating a more cooperative, generous attitude.

A void of course Moon occurs from 1:59 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mercury), until the Moon enters Cancer at 7:31 PM EDT.

OCTOBER 14
The Moon is in sensitive, feeling Cancer all day. Early into the day, Venus sextiles Jupiter, stimulating a mood or atmosphere conducive to cooperation, consideration for others, warmth, and openness. We are more forthcoming, optimistic, and generous. We tend to connect to a higher purpose regarding our personal relationships and our values, attaching meaning to them. We are freer with our affections (and our money). The Sun is moving towards a sextile to Mars, exact very early into the day tomorrow but felt later today. There is a stronger desire to solve problems rather than simply talk and think about them.

OCTOBER 15
The Sun sextiles Mars early today, and we are either called to action or to solve problems - enthusiasm is strong. The Moon is in Cancer all day, and the Last Quarter Moon is exact this afternoon when the Sun in Libra squares the Cancer Moon. This evening, Venus in minor discord with Neptune can point to fogginess when it comes to seeing the value of something or someone.

A void of course Moon occurs from 7:27 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mercury), until the Moon enters Leo tomorrow, Thursday, October 16th, at 6:30 AM EDT.

OCTOBER 16
The Moon ends its transit of Cancer at 6:30 AM EDT, when it enters Leo. This fiery position of the Moon can awaken our enthusiasm. Retrograde Mercury aligns with the Sun in Libra today, bringing illumination to our thoughts. This is a good time for processing recent events and ideas, and for beginning to look at problems or issues from a new perspective and with a new understanding. Significant new ideas can be birthed at this time, and these are likely to have real staying power or importance in our lives. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse. The Sun formed a sextile with Mars yesterday, and today Mercury does. We can have a strong desire to do something with our ideas, to learn, to teach, or to discuss (energetically). We are especially alert and aware, although possibly self-focused.

The void period of the Moon ends at 6:30 AM EDT, when the Moon enters Leo.

OCTOBER 17
Retrograde Mercury conjuncts Venus in Libra today, and the tendency to think and talk about our relationships, especially past ones, is strong. We may be intellectualizing feelings. This is a cooperative influence that generally stimulates our desire for harmony and balance so that we may not dig too deeply. Mentally, we're not as disciplined as usual, as we prefer to chat with others and to think about more "pleasant" things than work. The Moon is in affectionate, playful Leo all day, aligning with Jupiter this evening and stimulating a tendency to indulge and possibly go over the top. It also has the effect of magnifying our feelings and attachments.

OCTOBER 18
The Moon continues its transit of Leo until 7:09 PM EDT, harmonizing with the Libra Sun this morning, and offering clarity and balance. Our gut instincts tend to serve us well now, as they are not undermined by fears or insecurities. There is a stronger focus on, and investment in, our communications today. The Moon enters Virgo at 7:09 PM EDT, and we may be instinctively drawn to helping others as we tend to feel most secure when we feel needed. We might be a little more reserved or self-contained than usual, and we pay special attention to details.

A void of course Moon occurs from 9:11 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to the Moon), until the Moon enters Virgo at 7:09 PM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Gemini

MoonGeminiOur basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.

The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, short trips.

When the Moon is in Cancer

MoonCancerThe restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.

The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.

When the Moon is in Leo

MoonLeoThe Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.

The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.

When the Moon is in Virgo

MoonVirgoWe instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.

The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.

When the Moon is in...Transits of the Moon through the Signs.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Libra Meeting yourself in another person is the keynote of a new cycle which begins for you now. Relationships - romantic, business, social - are the arena where this drama is played out. In coming to know the other person, forging ties that bind two people, you come to a better understanding of yourself. It's easy in theory, but it's only in practice that it comes to mean anything real - so practice until you get it right!

Mercury in Libra A new cycle begins for you, signaling a greater than usual interest in relationships, social connections, and the arts - on a more intellectual level than in the past, most likely. Seeing both sides of an issue, and figuring out resolutions to opposing views: these things take on more importance in your life.

Venus in Libra As this new cycle takes hold in your life, romance and social interaction take on a greater importance for you. Harmonious ties to others are what you yearn for; refinement and elegance are what you seek. The ideal partnership, the perfect balance, the highest standards of truth and beauty - these are some of the things that quicken your pulse now.

Mars in Sagittarius Ideology is a keynote of the new phase you have begun - the power of ideas and the power they wield over people. Religious, cultural, or philosophical controversies and crusades have a way of stirring your blood. Travel and adventure are compelling temptations as you dare to test your mettle and stretch your horizons.

Jupiter in Leo High drama, big romance, a creative bonanza: this is the stuff dreams are made of now. The world is your stage, the spotlight is your goal, and the love and appreciation of others is the air you breathe. Children, lovers, admirers: these are the people who figure large in your life as this cycle progresses. A willingness to gamble on the future.

Saturn in Scorpio This new cycle signals a need to recognize that there are powers beyond your control, that things are not what they seem on the surface. Trying to stay in control and on top only sets you up for a fall. There is a need for the resources of others. Failure to recognize this and deal with it can stop you in your tracks.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...
