A FIRST QUARTER Moon occurs on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at 12:14 PM EST.

On Wednesday, a First Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Pisces forms a square with the Gemini Moon. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 6 degrees and 46 minutes of Gemini square the Sun at 6 degrees and 46 minutes of Pisces, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 5-9 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)

The Sun is in Pisces; Mercury is in Aquarius; Venus is in Aries; Mars is in Aries.

The Sun is in Pisces from February 18-March 20. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings. We are less active, and more motivated by our instincts. A "what will be, will be" attitude reigns, and we are guided by a sense of universal correlations. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side rules self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness.

Mercury is in Aquarius from January 4-March 12. (An unusually long transit for Mercury, due to a retrograde period that occurs entirely in the sign of Aquarius from January 21 to February 11). When Mercury is in Aquarius, we are hungry for knowledge and open to new and original ideas. We begin to think outside of the box, and our thinking becomes more progressive and objective. Our communication and thought patterns are spontaneous, somewhat fragmented, and liberal. This is a time when inventive thinking is at a peak.

Venus is in Aries February 20-March 17. In Aries, love is spontaneous and direct. The chase is very exciting to us under this fiery influence. We are bold, fresh, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We don't look back with Aries energy. We are not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past. It's a brand new day! It's time to make things work right now. Aries is known for a love of the chase and the conquest, but Aries love can be longstanding as long as it remains relatively fresh. Aries is blunt--there's no sugar-coating with Aries. This can sting, but rarely is Aries energy mean or petty. Saying it like it is is important to Aries. Desires are strong and expressed spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Aries prefers to seduce rather than be seduced, to chase rather than be chased.

Mars is in Aries February 19-March 31. Mars feels at home in one of the signs that it rules, Aries, and therefore its power is boosted. Our energy is spontaneous, forward-looking, and even courageous under this influence. Our competitive spirit is well-developed, and our goal is to win! We are active, single-minded, and confident. Our actions are direct--we instinctively find the fastest way to get from point A to point B. The shadow side of Mars in Aries is a tendency to be impatient, arrogant, impulsive, short-lived, unreflecting, and self-centered.

Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015 to December 20, 2017. Read about Saturn's transit through Sagittarius here.

Jupiter entered Leo on July 16th, where it will transit until August 11th, 2015. Read about Jupiter's transit through Leo here. Jupiter will transit Virgo from August 11, 2015 to September 9, 2016.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Aries from February 20-March 17.

This week: Venus parallels and then contra-parallels Mars from Sunday to Tuesday, bringing a strong focus on the excitement of union, but also on Tuesday is a stabilizing Venus-Saturn aspect (Mars-Saturn will occur the next day) that brings practicality and commitment into the equation. We can learn a lot from others and our relationships now.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Aries February 20-March 17. Romance at the drop of a hat is part and parcel of the cycle you have just begun. Winning the hearts of others can be a challenge you're eager to accept - and the thrill of the chase might be most of the fun. Is it the pursuit of happiness - or the happiness of pursuit?
Venus conjunct Mars February 21-22. This is a passionate, warm, expressive, lively and sexy energy. We are now able to take the initiative to achieve harmony and sexual fulfillment. This influence brings satisfaction to the feelings. Our creativity and desire to make something beautiful is stimulated now. We are more able to combine warmth with energy. Social relations are impassioned, and perhaps demanding or extreme. In some cases this impulsive energy generates "love at first sight" scenarios or erotic interludes. Team work is more successful now. Some level of competition is present in our interactions, but it's likely of a pleasurable and gently challenging kind. Impulsive purchases are possible.
Venus parallel Mars February 21-24. Favors romantic and sexual relationships. Intense passions.
Venus trine Saturn February 24. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. A new sense of realism and maturity in existing partnerships. Relationships begun under this influence possess a distinctly practical theme, almost as if the partnership is a business endeavor, and have much potential to last.
Venus contraparallel Chiron February 24-25. Others, and especially partners and love interests, have something to teach us. This is a time for identifying vulnerable areas.
Venus opposition North Node March 1-2. This is a time for reviewing our attachments in terms of whether they are contributing to our growth.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Saturday, February 21st, from 7:36 PM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Taurus the next day, Sunday, February 22nd, at 7:28 PM EST.

VOC Moon on Monday, February 23rd, from 9:58 PM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Gemini the next day, Tuesday, January 24th, at 11:54 PM EST.

VOC Moon on Thursday, February 26th, from 3:44 AM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Cancer the next day, Friday, February 27th, at 7:50 AM EST.

VOC Moon on Saturday, February 28th, from 12:53 PM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Pluto), until the Moon enters Leo the next day, Sunday, March 1st, at 6:35 PM EST.

This Week's Calendar

This Week's Aspects

conjunctMars Venus conjunct Mars. This transit generates a passionate, warm, expressive, lively, and sexy energy. We may also feel compelled to do something creative or artistic. In some cases this impulsive energy generates "love at first sight" scenarios or erotic interludes. The erotic impulses of love, desire, and sexuality are a highly charged focus of our attention. Expressing our passions in harmonious and pleasing ways is the focus. This is a time of balancing and integrating yin and yang energies within ourselves. We have a chance to express our needs, passions, and desires now in effective ways. Venus is diplomatic, gentle, romantic, and sensitive, while Mars is more forceful, sexual, and assertive. Venus can act to soften Mars' aggressiveness, or Mars can make Venus' romantic impulses more forceful and pressing. Team work is more successful now. Some level of competition is present in our interactions, but it's likely of a pleasurable and gently challenging kind. Impulsive purchases are possible.

SunsquareSaturn Sun square Saturn. As we face obstacles to our goals, we begin to see the tools with which we have to overcome them. A heavy dose of realism seems forced upon us under this influence, but our efforts to measure up to expectations can ultimately increase our confidence in our ability to be responsible for ourselves. This influence is a somber one.

Venustrine Venus trine Saturn. Affections stabilize and mature. Maturity with others allows us to take the bad with the good, and finds us seeing our relationships realistically. Small advances can be made in business and in partnerships through strengthening and bonding. Support from older people or authority figures may come by way of solid advice or more tangible help. Renewed ties to old friends are possible, or a new sense of responsibility can be felt in existing friendships. Business sense is good.

MarstrineSaturn Mars trine Saturn. Work takes on definite shape, and we can see results from our efforts. This gives us a sense of responsibility and a feeling of directedness and purposefulness. This is a good time to temper our energy and to exercise better judgment. A good time to get and feel organized. Seniority is favored now. Traditional methods work, and thoroughness brings rewards.

SunconjunctNeptune Sun conjunct Neptune. We are extremely sensitive to the moods and undercurrents around us. We make judgments intuitively and instinctually. We may have a hard time defining our actions and our goals, perhaps losing sight of reality and reason. Flexible morals. Increased spiritual awareness, imagination, and inspiration.

JupiterPluto Jupiter quincunx Pluto. This influence can stimulate moral dilemmas or concerns, the need to make adjustments to our plans or to weed out excessive or unrealistic elements in our lives, or challenges brought about by mishandling of power. Our belief system could be challenged now, and the need for an adjustment in attitude may arise; or we might have to face narrow-mindedness in others (or in ourselves).

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)

FEBRUARY 22
The Moon is in Aries and void until 7:28 PM EST, and while we may have a strong desire to move forward, things may not be catching on or showing much staying power now. The Sun and Saturn are moving towards a square, exact tomorrow, and there can be a feeling of blockage or a heightened awareness of responsibilities and limitations. The Moon enters Taurus at 7:28 PM, so that slowing down and exercising patience is a little easier tonight.

The Moon is void until it enters Taurus at 7:28 PM EST.

FEBRUARY 23
The Moon continues to transit practical, earthy Taurus all day. This morning, the Sun squares Saturn. As we face obstacles to our goals, we begin to see the tools with which we have to overcome them. A dose of realism seems forced upon us under this influence, but our efforts to measure up to expectations can ultimately increase our confidence in our ability to be responsible for ourselves. As the day advances, it becomes easier and quite natural to work with realistic and practical elements.

A void of course Moon occurs from 9:58 PM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Gemini tomorrow, Tuesday, January 24th, at 11:54 PM EST.

FEBRUARY 24
The Moon continues its transit of Taurus until the tail-end of the day, when it enters Gemini. The Taurus Moon is patient, and with Taurean ruler, Venus, in harmony with steady Saturn, there can be a lot of focus on settling in and finding our anchor. Affections stabilize and mature under this influence. We may not be very demonstrative with our feelings, but we tend to prove ourselves through our actions. Business sense is good.

The Moon ends its void period at 11:54 PM EST, when it enters Gemini.

FEBRUARY 25
A First Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Pisces forms a square with the Gemini Moon shortly after noon. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Later today, Mars trines Saturn, which is a good influence for locking things down. We are approaching things from a practical perspective. We can have a stronger sense of responsibility and a feeling of directedness and purposefulness. This is a good time to temper our energy and to exercise better judgment. A good time to get and feel organized. Traditional methods work, and thoroughness brings rewards. Even so, the Sun and Neptune come together tonight - a very different energy. We are extremely sensitive to the moods and undercurrents around us. We make judgments intuitively and instinctually under this influence, which is in direct contrast to the Mars-Saturn influence. We may have a hard time defining our actions and our goals, perhaps losing sight of reality and reason. With Mars-Saturn in the equation, however, we might be able to combine imagination and method.

FEBRUARY 26
The Moon is in inquisitive Gemini all day. Under this influence, our emotions are in a state of flux, and it may be difficult to truly get in touch with our deeper needs. On the surface of things, however, we tend to seek out information, ideas, and contact with others. Siblings, relatives, or neighbors and community involvement are especially important to our emotional well-being under a Gemini Moon. We adapt easily to change, and in fact we crave surprise, novelty, and intelligent responses in others. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle. The Moon is void for most of the day, forming very few major aspects to major planets. What we put into motion now may not have longevity.

A void of course Moon occurs from 3:44 AM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Cancer tomorrow, Friday, February 27th, at 7:50 AM EST.

FEBRUARY 27
The Moon continues its transit of Gemini until 7:50 AM EST, when it enters Cancer, ending a lengthy void period that lasted much of yesterday. Today, a longer-term influence comes exact - Jupiter quincunx Pluto. Jupiter quincunx Pluto. This aspect first occurred in September 2014, and will recur in May. This influence can stimulate moral dilemmas or concerns. Our belief system could be challenged now, and the need for an adjustment in attitude may arise; or we might have to face narrow-mindedness in others (or in ourselves). The need to make adjustments to our plans, or to weed out excessive or unrealistic elements in our lives, can become obvious at this time. The more successful we are at eliminating these things and making necessary adjustments, the more we'll be able to benefit from Jupiter's trine to Uranus that comes exact on March 3rd, but is in effect in the week leading up to it (at least).

The Moon ends its void period at 7:50 AM EST, when it enters Cancer.

FEBRUARY 28
The Moon is in Cancer all day, where it feels right at home. Midday, the Moon squares Uranus and then opposes Pluto, and we may take a departure from the norm. Some sudden, although likely minor, changes are possible now. Plans may change direction unexpectedly. There can be some intensity in our personal relationships and/or some sort of inner emotional turmoil. Avoid confrontations and mind games. We can more easily access the healing potential of the Cancer Moon in the latter half of the day. We are insular and our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.

A void of course Moon occurs from 12:53 PM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Pluto), until the Moon enters Leo tomorrow, Sunday, March 1st, at 6:35 PM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Aries

MoonAriesWe're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to start something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.

The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.

When the Moon is in Taurus

MoonTaurusWe are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses". Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.

The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.

When the Moon is in Gemini

MoonGeminiOur basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.

The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, short trips.

When the Moon is in Cancer

MoonCancerThe restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.

The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Pisces The mystic, the martyr, the sinner, and the saint: these archetypes take on greater importance in your life at a time like this. Forgiveness, compassion, and understanding come naturally, when you look at life from an eternal perspective - and if anyone ever does know such things, you'll probably come to understand them as this cycle unfolds. This can be a phase of sublime spiritual development, to be sure. But you should be aware of tendencies to believe too quickly, too deeply, or to become dependent on things or people that seem to offer quick and easy answers to life's deepest yearnings.

Mercury in Aquarius The tried and true doesn't cut it anymore: it's the new, the unique, and the original that catches and holds your interest now. Idealism, rationality, and critical thinking become more and more a part of your mental patterns and the way you communicate. You are inventive, original, high tech.

Venus in Aries Romance at the drop of a hat is part and parcel of the cycle you have just begun. Winning the hearts of others can be a challenge you're eager to accept - and the thrill of the chase might be most of the fun. Is it the pursuit of happiness - or the happiness of pursuit?

Mars in Aries Fresh challenges and initiatives light your fires now, as a new cycle begins in your life - lots of energy, a powerful urge to be first or come out on top. Away with the old and on to the new - let no one and nothing stand between you and your objective! Headstrong impulses and rash courage can take you far ... sometimes in harm's way, if you're not careful.

Jupiter in Leo High drama, big romance, a creative bonanza: this is the stuff dreams are made of now. The world is your stage, the spotlight is your goal, and the love and appreciation of others is the air you breathe. Children, lovers, admirers: these are the people who figure large in your life as this cycle progresses. A willingness to gamble on the future.

Saturn in Sagittarius The new phase now beginning in your life brings a need to break out of narrow concepts and legalistic philosophical or religious ideas. Remember: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds." Opportunities to broaden your mental horizons may not come with ease, but they are essential if you are to avoid a kind of spiritual stagnation.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...
