A LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Monday, May 11, 2015, at 6:36 AM EDT.

On Monday morning, the Last Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Taurus squares the Moon in Aquarius. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week's Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us--and what doesn't--in preparation for next week's New Moon, when something new is born once again. This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It's time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon on April 18th. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?

This phase of the Moon occurs at 20 degrees and 25 minutes of Aquarius squaring the Sun at 20 degrees and 25 minutes of Taurus, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 18 to 22 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

May 18, 2015    12:13 AM  Sun Conjunct Moon (New Moon)

(Times are Eastern)

The Sun is in Taurus; Mercury is in Gemini; Venus is in Cancer; Mars is in Taurus.

The Sun is in Taurus from April 20-May 21. In Taurus, the Sun is methodical, sensual, and receptive. The Sun in Taurus is most active when it is defending or resisting things! As the Sun moves through Taurus when plants take root, our determination and security needs are strong. Taurus is loyal to all that is familiar, and values longevity. The shadow side of Taurus is possessiveness and bullheadedness.

Mercury is in Gemini from April 30-July 8 (longer than usual due to Mercury's upcoming retrograde in Gemini from May 18-June 11). When Mercury is in Gemini, we are especially communicative, curious, and sociable. Mercury feels right at home in Gemini, one of the signs that it rules. We tend to take more pleasure in gaining a superficial knowledge of many subjects rather than dig deep into any one topic. We are especially astute when it comes to arguing or making a point. We are attracted to wordplays, puns, and negotiations. We are easily distracted.

Venus is in Cancer May 7-June 5. In Cancer, Venus is nurturing, protective and self-protective, cautious, and fertile. We experience many emotional ups and downs in love under this influence due to increased sensitivity and impressionability. We are tender, romantic, and attached. Cancer love is dedicated, warm, and devoted. We show our love through our devotion, care, and concern. We are affectionate and cuddly, and are at our best when we feel safe and secure.

Mars is in Taurus March 31-May 11. With Mars in Taurus, we are determined, stubborn, and resolute. Mars in Taurus can be passive, and is at its strongest when resisting or defending something! In stark contrast to the impulsive Mars in Aries cycle, we tend to pursue our goals by plodding along patiently. Our goals are longevity and long-term satisfaction.

Mars in Gemini May 16-June 24. In Gemini, Mars is considerably more versatile and flexible--and considerably less determined and focused! Our interests become more diversified, possibly to the point of going off on so many tangents that we are scattered and ineffective.

Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015 to December 20, 2017. Read about Saturn's transit through Sagittarius here.

Jupiter entered Leo on July 16th, where it will transit until August 11th, 2015. Read about Jupiter's transit through Leo here. Jupiter will transit Virgo from August 11, 2015 to September 9, 2016.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Cancer from May 7-June 5. We treat lovers with sympathy and tenderness, providing the emotional nurturing that they need. We tend to "play it safe" when it comes to relationships. Love and devotion is most important to us, and provides us with a sense of inner security. We seek a deep love in which we can merge souls and personalities with our lover. We are quite devoted to our partners, and we seek such devotion in return. However, we could also become possessive, manipulative, and stifling. Familiarity is more important to us now. Our fear of rejection is overdeveloped, and we offer our hearts cautiously as a result. We pay more attention to our lovers' feelings than their words. We feel threatened if a lover acts in an impersonal, overly independent, or detached manner. Safe and solid relationships are more appealing. Romantic and emotional hurts are very hard to forget.

This week: May is a persnickety month when it comes to planetary aspects. Looking for opportunity periods is difficult this month because there are fewer easy aspects and when they do occur, they are often overshadowed by difficult ones. However, one occurs this Saturday, the 16th, when Venus in Cancer trines Neptune in Pisces, and we are seeing others, and possibly ourselves, in a romantic, accepting, or compassionate light. This is a time for seeing the best in others and the best in our relationships or situations. Perhaps even better, we are seeing beauty in imperfection. The Moon in steady Taurus supports this trine as well.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Cancer May 7-June 5. Mothering (or being mothered), sympathy, a yearning to put down roots, and a fondness for things that have stood the test of time - these are some of the hallmarks of the phase that now begins in your life. Romantic and social experiences, as well as artistic tastes, will show evidence of these factors.
Venus quincunx Saturn May 9-10. A feeling that we may not be able to express our affections, or that our affections will not be received well, can undermine us in our relationships. Fear of rejection, emotional distancing, and over-sensitivity.
Venus trine Neptune May 16. We perceive romantic situations as if they were "designed" just for us. A magical, romantic time. The pleasures of life are experienced fully. Romance is highly favored. We see the very best in people now, and this eases our interactions and takes the pressure off in personal relationships.
Venus opposition Pluto May 21. This is a period of intense feelings, as well as possible emotional distress and tension caused by romantic troubles or social manipulation. An experience of being used or abused physically, emotionally or sexually may cause us suffering or disappointment. Sexually driven emotions are likely now. Fears of betrayal may get the best of us.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Monday, May 11th, from 6:37 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to the Sun), until the Moon enters Pisces at 10:54 PM EDT.

VOC Moon on Wednesday, May 13th, from 12:56 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to the Sun), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Thursday, May 14th, at 1:15 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Friday, May 15th, from 8:05 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Uranus), until the Moon enters Taurus the next day, Saturday, May 16th, at 3:04 AM EDT.

This Week's Aspects

VenusinconjunctSaturn Venus quincunx Saturn. We are extra sensitive, but it can be difficult to know why. Anxiety may overcome us when we wish to express our affections or social urges, and this hesitation can express itself through inhibitions and emotional distancing.

SunsextileChiron Sun sextile Chiron. An opportunity to find a sense of purpose or a "mission" arises now, increasing our confidence. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong. Problem solving is favored.

Mars sesquiquadrature Pluto. Our desires are intense and difficult to satisfy under this influence. A tendency to bully and confront may dominate. Efforts to make changes could be thwarted, or power struggles emerge. The trick is to remain flexible and to develop strategies for achieving our goals.

MarsoppositionSaturn Mars opposition Saturn. Circumstances or people tend to stand in our way or thwart our will just now, which can cause some feelings of resentment or frustration. It can be difficult to assert ourselves directly or in an otherwise healthy manner. Our desire to take action and to constructively express our aggressive urges feels thwarted or blocked. It can feel like more effort than usual is required to complete tasks.

VenustrineNeptune Venus trine Neptune. We are more attuned to the world of beauty, the arts, and the imagination. Compassion, harmony, kindness, and openness characterize this transit. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. This can be a "magical" time on a romantic and social level. The pleasures of life are experienced fully. We see the very best in people now, and this eases our interactions and takes the pressure off in personal relationships. Romance is highly favored.

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)

MAY 10
Early today, a Venus-Saturn quincunx can leave us feeling torn between pleasure and responsibility, and perhaps not able to fully appreciate or deal with either. Anxiety may overcome us when we wish to express our affections or social urges, and this hesitation can express itself through inhibitions and emotional distancing. The Moon is in Aquarius all day, harmonizing with Mercury this afternoon. We can be good company with this combination, enjoying socializing with one another and exchanging ideas.

MAY 11
This morning, the Last Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Taurus squares the Moon in Aquarius. The Sun sextiles Chiron today, creating the right energy for opportunities to find a sense of purpose or a "mission", and increasing our confidence. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong. Problem solving is favored. Mars enters Gemini today, where it will transit until June 24th. In Gemini, Mars is versatile and flexible, and not very determined or focused. We have more diversified interests, but we should watch for becoming too scattered and ineffective. The Moon leaves Aquarius and enters Pisces at 10:54 PM EDT.

A void of course Moon occurs from 6:37 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to the Sun), until the Moon enters Pisces at 10:54 PM EDT.

MAY 12
The Moon is in Pisces all day, and we can be a little less structured and more romantic, sensitive, and dreamy. There is a stronger inclination to adjust, help, and make sacrifices, and also to escape those things we feel uncomfortable with. Mars has just entered Gemini and now forms a difficult aspect with Pluto. Our desires are intense and difficult to satisfy under this influence. A tendency to bully and confront may dominate, as we tend to look for the upper hand. Efforts to make changes could be thwarted, or power struggles emerge. The trick is to remain flexible and to develop strategies for achieving our goals.

MAY 13
The Moon is in Pisces all day, aligning with Chiron and harmonizing with the Sun in Taurus. While this may not be the most productive of days in a material sense, this can be a good time for getting to a new understanding of a problem or difficulty, and for opening ourselves up to change and healing. Unresolved feelings or difficulties are in focus now. This is a day for identifying what needs to be done in order for us to grow and improve. It's a time for sharing, learning, healing, helping, and teaching.

A void of course Moon occurs from 12:56 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to the Sun), until the Moon enters Aries tomorrow, Thursday, May 14th, at 1:15 AM EDT.

MAY 14
The Moon ends its transit of Pisces early into the day, at 1:15 AM EDT, when it enters the first sign of the zodiac, Aries. An Aries Moon encourages new beginnings, taking action, faith, trying something new, and asserting our desires. However, Aries' ruler, Mars, is closing in on an opposition to restricting Saturn, exact early into the day tomorrow. Circumstances or people tend to stand in our way or thwart our will, which can cause some feelings of resentment or frustration. It can be difficult to assert ourselves directly or in an otherwise healthy manner; or our assertions meet with a brick wall. Our desire to take action and to constructively express our aggressive urges feels thwarted or blocked. With waning motivation, we might find it particularly hard to get through our routines as quickly as we might on another day. We are asked to slow down and be patient.

The Moon ends its void period at 1:15 AM EDT, when it enters Aries.

MAY 15
Early into the day, Mars perfects its opposition to Saturn, and we may be dealing with a reality check or slow down. However, we can rebuild enthusiasm, ideally with a stronger sense of reality, with the spontaneous Aries Moon with us all day. The Moon aligns with Uranus this morning, and our desire for change is stimulated. This is a time for keeping our schedules and minds open, as we are emotionally geared to embrace new things and to break the usual routine. We are following our own instincts and intuition. This is a time for experimentation and improvisation. Jupiter and Chiron are moving towards a creative biquintile aspect (exact on the 18th), and Mars is quintile both today, bringing good energy for coming to new solutions to problems, thinking up original and possibly marketable ideas, and breaking through fears and limitations in order to make improvements. We are also moving towards a Venus-Neptune trine that is opening up our intuition and imagination.

A void of course Moon occurs from 8:05 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Uranus), until the Moon enters Taurus tomorrow, Saturday, May 16th, at 3:04 AM EDT.

MAY 16
The Moon finishes up its transit of Aries at 3:04 AM EDT, when it enters steady, sensual Taurus, and we begin to slow down just enough to appreciate what our lives are already offering us. Taurean ruler, Venus, forms a trine with Neptune today, and we are more attuned to the world of beauty, the arts, and the imagination.

The Moon ends its void period at 3:04 AM EDT, when it enters Taurus.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Aquarius

MoonAquarius Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.

The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.

When the Moon is in Pisces

MoonPiscesWe are not inclined to want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.

The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.

When the Moon is in Aries

MoonAriesWe're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to start something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.

The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.

When the Moon is in Taurus

MoonTaurusWe are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses". Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.

The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.

When the Moon is in...Transits of the Moon through the Signs.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Taurus The cycle now dawning in your life emphasizes stability, substance, practicality, and the concept of value - value in the material as well as psycho-spiritual sense. This marks a time of building to last, of appreciating the substantial rather than ephemeral. Consolidating past gains rather than focusing on radical new departures is likely to be a major theme for you during this cycle. Appreciating the finer things of life is another hallmark of this phase, which marks a time when you should be concentrating on "smelling the roses" rather than passing them by in such a hurry.

Mercury in Gemini A walking encyclopedia, a yen to know a little bit about everything (and everyone): these are the icons of the cycle you have just begun. Talking, writing, keeping a finger on the pulse of all that's happening ... this is a time of study and learning, a cycle of mental challenge, curiosity, and social/intellectual growth. Such things are an end in themselves rather than a means to any other end.

Venus in Cancer Mothering (or being mothered), sympathy, a yearning to put down roots, and a fondness for things that have stood the test of time - these are some of the hallmarks of the phase that now begins in your life. Romantic and social experiences, as well as artistic tastes, will show evidence of these factors.

Mars in Taurus Making the most of what you've got, striving for security and stability: that's the impulse that stirs in you as a new cycle begins in your life. New frontiers? That's kid's stuff for you now! What you want is to build something that will last: a pyramid, a Great Wall - you know, that sort of thing. Steady, patient, solid: that's your style now.

Jupiter in Leo High drama, big romance, a creative bonanza: this is the stuff dreams are made of now. The world is your stage, the spotlight is your goal, and the love and appreciation of others is the air you breathe. Children, lovers, admirers: these are the people who figure large in your life as this cycle progresses. A willingness to gamble on the future.

Saturn in Sagittarius The new phase now beginning in your life brings a need to break out of narrow concepts and legalistic philosophical or religious ideas. Remember: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds." Opportunities to broaden your mental horizons may not come with ease, but they are essential if you are to avoid a kind of spiritual stagnation.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...
