A NEW Moon occurs on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at 8:14 AM EST.

On Tuesday morning, a New Moon occurs, marking the beginning of a new cycle. The Capricorn New Moon cycle ends and the Aquarius New Moon cycle begins. In the sign of Aquarius, friendship, brotherhood, group activities, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, humanitarian efforts, or joining a group will be a strong focus on a personal level. New beginnings regarding all of these matters are possible now.

This is a time during which we should solve problems that require thinking "outside of the box"; look to the future with a brand new, positive, and hopeful vision; brainstorm and socialize; focus on extending a friendly hand, receiving support, and expressing platonic love for those around us; give our emotions and passions a "break", as we develop more objectivity and some detachment from past haunts; learn how something (or someone) works; revitalize ourselves through experiences that are new or simply different; reach out to people in our social circle and in our community, and recognize the value of our friendships and social networks; recognize that some level of detachment and distancing ourselves from our habits and attachment to the past will help us break away from destructive behaviors that are holding us back. With this potent Aquarius energy, we have the chance to make progressive changes in our lives. For some of us, circumstances are such that we need to pay more attention to these matters. With the New Moon occurring at the very beginning of the sign of Aquarius, new beginnings are emphasized.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 0 degrees and 9 minutes of Aquarius, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 26 to 30 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) and 0 to 4 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)

The Sun is in Capricorn until January 20th, when it enters Aquarius; Mercury is in Aquarius; Venus is in Aquarius; Mars is in Pisces.

The Sun is in Capricorn from December 21-January 20. We are motivated by feelings of responsibility, ambition, and respect for law and order. Capricorn derives much satisfaction in completion and accomplishment. Standards, structures, and an appreciation for order are Capricorn themes. Capricorn wants tangible results, knows what is feasible and what is not, and is most comfortable working within an established framework and known boundaries or limits. Working towards a long-term goal is most satisfying with this influence.

The Sun is in Aquarius from January 20-February 18. During this cycle, we are motivated by our hunger for knowledge, experience, and originality. Innovation is more important to us than convention. We become more aware of what is outdated in our lives, and strive to find new perspectives and new ways to do things. The class distinctions, structure, and order that Capricorn finds appealing now seem to be too rigid. The freedom of the individual becomes far more significant to us. We strive to free ourselves from some of the restrictions, inhibitions, and limitations that now feel constraining rather than safe.

Mercury is in Aquarius from January 4-March 12. (An unusually long transit for Mercury, due to an upcoming retrograde period that occurs entirely in the sign of Aquarius from January 21 to February 11). When Mercury is in Aquarius, we are hungry for knowledge and open to new and original ideas. We begin to think outside of the box, and our thinking becomes more progressive and objective. Our communication and thought patterns are spontaneous, somewhat fragmented, and liberal. This is a time when inventive thinking is at a peak.

Venus is in Aquarius January 3-27. We move towards unconventionality, independence, and freedom as themes in our social relationships under this influence. Aquarius can be just as faithful as Capricorn, but it has to be on his own terms! Experimental relationships are more intriguing now. Being friends as well as lovers is important to us during this cycle. Allowing one another freedom of expression, and treating others fairly, unselfishly, and impartially, are themes now.

Mars is in Pisces from January 12-February 19. We tend to feel less motivated to go after traditional goals, and more motivated to pursue spiritual or emotional drives during this cycle. We dislike confrontation during this trend. Our output is variable rather than straightforward, and our energy is similarly up and down. We may put others' needs ahead of our own, and our more idealistic side comes to the fore. During this cycle, going after what we want becomes less straightforward and more complicated!

Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015 to December 20, 2017. Read about Saturn's transit through Sagittarius here.

Jupiter entered Leo on July 16th, where it will transit until August 11th, 2015. Read about Jupiter's transit through Leo here. Jupiter will transit Virgo from August 11, 2015 to September 9, 2016.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Aquarius from January 3-27. While Venus was in Capricorn, we valued enduring connections, reliability, and faithfulness. We took expressing our feelings seriously, and we also took our sweet time warming up to others! Generally, we kept our "cool" in relationships. With Venus now in Aquarius, we still keep our "cool" in relationships, but in a detached and impersonal sort of way, however. Unconventional set-ups become more appealing. Bringing the spirit of friendship into romantic relationships is a positive use of Venus in Aquarius energy. Relationships that fairly scream "alternative" appeal to us now. It's all about being open-minded and somewhat detached with Aquarius energy dominating the love arena. With Venus in Aquarius, it's best to go into dates with new people casually, with no expectations and no strings. Melodrama and emotionalism simply won't work. We may also find ourselves attracted to, or attracting, people who are not our "type".

This week: On Monday, we can feel quite restless with anything in our relationships that have become expected or boring, and there can be dramatic efforts to get one another's attention. Venus parallel Mercury in orb on Saturday brings good energy for talking about our needs, wants, and affections.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Aquarius January 3-27. A love for the unusual, a distaste for stodgy old rules and conventions, a feeling that you're above the petty bourgeois stuff and nonsense: that's what a new cycle brings into your life now. ("I love humanity; it's people I can't stand!") Unconventional romantic and social connections are likely at a time like this.
Venus opposition Jupiter January 19. We are easily bored with the everyday responsibilities and routines of our love lives, and are now inclined to dramatize our lives. As a result, our love natures are strong, but insatiable. We may overstate our feelings as we temporarily overvalue someone; or we face challenges in our relationships due to overblown expectations. We are itching for adventure and fun, but the wisest course of action is to avoid ignoring our responsibilities (and reality) in our efforts towards self-gratification.
Venus parallel Mercury January 24-25. A congenial time when we appreciate diplomacy and socialize more readily.
Venus semi-square Uranus January 25. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness. A desire to experiment in the romance department may be fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying or frustrating.
Venus semi-square Pluto January 26. Tendencies to look for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousy raises its ugly head.
Venus square Saturn January 29-30. Feeling unsatisfied, isolated, and unloved. Personal relationships are likely to be strained as we express our affections cautiously and sparingly. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. This is not a good time to begin a new relationship--new ones begun now are likely to be stamped with themes of duty and restriction.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Saturday, January 17th, from 2:26 PM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Capricorn the next day, Sunday, January 18th, at 7:05 AM EST.

VOC Moon on Monday, January 19th, from 5:52 AM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aquarius the next day, Tuesday, January 20th, at 8:01 AM EST.

VOC Moon on Wednesday, January 21st, from 8:46 PM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Venus), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Thursday, January 22nd, at 7:49 AM EST.

VOC Moon on Friday, January 23rd, from 6:14 AM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Saturday, January 24th, at 8:32 AM EST.

This Week's Calendar

This Week's Aspects

Venusopposition Venus opposition Jupiter. The love nature is strong, but given to extremes. Over-inflated expectations and the tendency to overstate our affections are things to watch out for. We may overvalue something (or someone), perhaps in order to add more drama to our lives, or to feel bigger than life. We are sociable, in the mood to party, dramatic, extravagant, and inclined to overindulge as a result of this inner discontent and desire for more from life than daily routines.

SunSemi-squareChiron Sun semi-square Chiron. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong, but may be hampered by a lack of confidence or a fear of being different.

conjunctionNeptune Mars conjunct Neptune. Our impulses and desires may be confusing, peculiar, hard to explain, or difficult to understand now. Not content with our regular routines, we tend to crave more drama, glamour, or meaning now. Concentration on practical concerns and affairs may be lacking. We act on our intuition now, sexual fantasies are strong, we strive towards all that is boundless, and our creative impulses are potent. We are less tense and driven, and more relaxed. "What will be, will be" is the attitude now. Inspiration can be found now. This transit favors dancing, swimming, photography, arts, and entertainment.

SunsextileSaturn Sun sextile Saturn. We feel grounded and stable. It's easy to stick to a specific task and make headway. Productivity may be slow, but it's steady. We are taking into account practical considerations and we are especially aware of the element of time. We are more able to discipline ourselves and put our egos aside in order to get the job done.

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)

JANUARY 18
The Moon continues its transit of Sagittarius at 7:05 AM EST, when it enters Capricorn, turning our emotional focus to our performance, goals, and ability to meet responsibilities. We tend to value and demonstrate efficiency and consistency with this Moon position, and we draw heavily upon common sense when making decisions. This afternoon, the Moon sextiles Mars and then Neptune, as Mars and Neptune approach alignment, exact tomorrow evening. While the Moon in Capricorn can be very practical in orientation, its connection with Mars and Neptune in Pisces today encourages imagination and intuition as well.

The Moon ends its void period at 7:05 AM EST, when it enters Capricorn.

JANUARY 19
Venus opposes Jupiter this morning, and our appetite for pleasure, love, or material things is big, but we may be given to extremes or excess. Over-inflated expectations and the tendency to overstate our affections are things to watch out for. We may overvalue something (or someone), perhaps in order to add more drama to our lives, or to feel bigger than life. We are sociable, in the mood to party, dramatic, extravagant, and inclined to overindulge as a result of this inner discontent and desire for more from life than the ordinary. Mars and Neptune align in the sign of Pisces today. Our impulses and desires may be confusing, peculiar, hard to explain, or difficult to understand now. Not content with our regular routines, we tend to crave more drama, glamor, or meaning. Concentration on practical concerns and affairs may be lacking. We act on our intuition now, fantasies are strong, we strive towards all that is boundless, and our creative impulses are potent. Inspiration can be found now. Either we consciously pull back or energy levels lag. Creative pursuits that involve physical movement are highly favored and could provide wonderful outlets for excess, undirected energy. There can be much building inside us, but we may not yet know where we want it to take us, or if we do, how to get there. There is a strong need to release pressure and tension. We may actively seek out inspiration. This influence favors dancing, swimming, photography, arts, and entertainment. The Moon is Balsamic with a New Moon occurring tomorrow morning. It's best to release, let go, and reflect than to forge ahead with new plans.

A void of course Moon occurs from 5:52 AM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aquarius tomorrow, Tuesday, January 20th, at 8:01 AM EST.

JANUARY 20
The Sun enters Aquarius this morning, where it will transit until February 18th. During this cycle, we are motivated by our hunger for knowledge, experience, and originality. Innovation is more important to us than convention. We become more aware of what is outdated in our lives, and strive to find new perspectives and new ways to do things. The class distinctions, structure, and order that Capricorn found appealing now seem to be too rigid. The freedom of the individual becomes far more significant to us. We strive to free ourselves from some of the restrictions, inhibitions, and limitations that now feel constraining rather than safe. The Moon enters Aquarius at 8:01 AM EST, and within minutes, the Sun and Moon align in a New Moon at 8:15 AM in Aquarius, very early (in the first degree). This is a time for new beginnings regarding friendship, brotherhood, group activities, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, humanitarian efforts, or joining a group.

The Moon ends its void period at 8:01 AM EST, when the Moon enters Aquarius.

JANUARY 21
Cloudy thinking or confusion can figure strongly now with Mercury stationing and turning retrograde. Communication can be tricky, and it can be hard to focus on cold, hard facts, especially if we have been fuzzy in recent days. Mercury will remain retrograde until February 11th. During this time, our thinking is turned inward, as we review and re-assess matters. This period is best used for re-organizing and reflecting. We look at the world a little differently--through different filters--and can come up with some very important inner revelations. Mercury retrograde periods can be times of heightened inner awareness, when meditation, benefiting from keeping a journal, reworking old plans, and reviewing past work are favored. Minor breaks in the mechanical aspects of communication can actually re-connect us to other, possibly more meaningful, means of communication. A New Moon just occurred yesterday, so that in many ways we are looking ahead and moving forward, but with Mercury retrograde now, we're also in a state of review. The Moon is in Aquarius all day.

A void of course Moon occurs from 8:46 PM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Venus), until the Moon enters Pisces tomorrow, Thursday, January 22nd, at 7:49 AM EST.

JANUARY 22
The Moon continues its transit of Aquarius until 7:49 AM EST, when it enters Pisces. While the Moon's transit of Pisces stimulates our dreamy, imaginative side, its square to Saturn midday reminds us of our responsibilities, and we may prefer to escape them. However, as the day moves forward, we are more inclined to feel good about tending to our practical affairs with the Sun and Saturn moving towards a sextile. We feel grounded and stable. It's easy to stick to a specific task and make headway. Productivity may be slow, but it's steady. We are more able to discipline ourselves and put our egos aside in order to get the job done. This transit can teach us that humbling ourselves in order to accept constructive criticism and advice can be beneficial.

The Moon ends its void period at 7:49 AM EST, when the Moon enters Pisces.

JANUARY 23
Very early into the day, the Sun sextiles Saturn, framing our responsibilities in a positive way. Patience is increased as we focus on things that will make us feel secure in the long term. The Moon is in Pisces all day, however, encouraging us to take the walls down, so that as the day advances, we tend to our spiritual needs more than our practical ones. We are inclined to daydream and perhaps stray from our regular routine a little.

A void of course Moon occurs from 6:14 AM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aries tomorrow, Saturday, January 24th, at 8:32 AM EST.

JANUARY 24
The Moon continues its transit of Pisces until 8:32 AM EST, when it enters Aries. There is more decisiveness and certainty now with the Moon in Aries. A desire to start a new chapter is with us. We are quick, assertive, slightly detached, and honest with the Aquarius Sun sextile the Aries Moon this afternoon, and the Moon's trine to Saturn helps to ground us. We are focused less on our emotional needs and more on material and mental concerns today.

The Moon ends its void period at 8:32 AM EST, when the Moon enters Aries.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Sagittarius

MoonSagittariusThe Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".

The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.

When the Moon is in Capricorn

MoonCapricornrWe become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.

The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.

When the Moon is in Aquarius

MoonAquarius Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.

The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.

When the Moon is in Pisces

MoonPiscesWe are not inclined to want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.

The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.

When the Moon is in...Transits of the Moon through the Signs.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Capricorn You see what's wrong and you know what to do now: the time has come to make it real, and it's a lot bigger than any one person. This means cooperation and organization, authority and discipline, responsibility - and all these things are what it takes to get you where you know you must go. But take care! If your vision is only for yourself, what you create cannot last: it must be for some greater good. Ambition, practicality, and achievement are admirable, but they are means to an end - not ends in themselves.

Sun in Aquarius This is a time when your path of self-development and expression becomes more and more unusual - setting you apart from the crowd and from all that is traditional. The new, the futuristic, the high-tech are the hallmarks of your lifestyle as the cycle gets underway. Ideas and technologies that change the way people live - not just one person, but many - are a major new focus in your life. Involvement with ideals and idealistic groups enhances your sense of purpose and mission.

Mercury in Aquarius The tried and true doesn't cut it anymore: it's the new, the unique, and the original that catches and holds your interest now. Idealism, rationality, and critical thinking become more and more a part of your mental patterns and the way you communicate. You are inventive, original, high tech.

Venus in Aquarius A love for the unusual, a distaste for stodgy old rules and conventions, a feeling that you're above the petty bourgeois stuff and nonsense: that's what a new cycle brings into your life now. ("I love humanity; it's people I can't stand!") Unconventional romantic and social connections are likely at a time like this.

Mars in Pisces There's a martyr complex in the air, now that this new phase has begun in your life. How can you (or anyone) save the world? It's a question you'll probably ask yourself as this cycle continues. Defending the weak, undoing injustice, and tilting at windmills can be a big temptation. You might even win a few hands - but you'll blister a couple if you're not careful.

Jupiter in Leo High drama, big romance, a creative bonanza: this is the stuff dreams are made of now. The world is your stage, the spotlight is your goal, and the love and appreciation of others is the air you breathe. Children, lovers, admirers: these are the people who figure large in your life as this cycle progresses. A willingness to gamble on the future.

Saturn in Sagittarius The new phase now beginning in your life brings a need to break out of narrow concepts and legalistic philosophical or religious ideas. Remember: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds." Opportunities to broaden your mental horizons may not come with ease, but they are essential if you are to avoid a kind of spiritual stagnation.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...
