A FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Friday, July 24, 2015, at 12:04 AM EDT.

Minutes into the day on Friday, a First Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Leo forms a square with the Scorpio Moon. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 0 degrees and 58 minutes of Scorpio conjunct the Sun at 0 degrees and 58 minutes of Leo, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 28 to 30 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) and 0 to 4 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)

The Sun is in Cancer until the 22nd, when it enters Leo; Mercury is in Cancer until the 23rd when it enters Leo; Venus is in Virgo; Mars is in Cancer.

The Sun is in Cancer from June 21-July 22. We are self-protective and insular under this influence. Our attention turns to our nest--our families, homes, and anything that makes us feel "at home", safe, and secure. Nurturing and taking care of our loved ones and our pet projects comes into focus. Emotions run deep. We are more susceptible to the ups and downs of the Moon while the Sun is in Cancer.

The Sun is in Leo from July 22-August 23. In Leo, the Sun is proud, outgoing, and playful. The Leo Sun is intensely individual—not content with simply being just one of the team. It's time to shine, add a touch of color and drama to our lives, and perform. Like the flowers and fruit of the season--blossoming and ripened--this is a time when we want to enjoy ourselves and express ourselves. We are more generous and grand in our gestures and attitudes. On the shadow side, we can also be self-centered and vain.

Mercury is in Cancer from July 8-23. When Mercury is in Cancer, we move from the desire for quantity to the need for quality in terms of the information we are attracted to. We think, speak, and take in information on a deeper, more instinctive level now. We have less interest in what is universal, and more interest in what affects us personally and what affects the people around us. Our thoughts are colored by our emotions, so it is more challenging to be objective.

Mercury is in Leo from July 23-August 7. When Mercury is in Leo, our thinking is more confident and grand. The focus is now on the goal--and the more grand a goal the better! The details may not be quite as important now. We are more expressive, even theatrical and given to speech-giving and story-telling under this influence. We are also more convincing and persuasive, as we exude confidence when we speak or write. We may not listen as well as we normally do under Mercury in Leo.

Venus is in Virgo from July 18-31. Venus enters its pre-retrograde shadow on June 21st, will be retrograde from July 25th to September 6th, and will move through its post-retrograde shadow until October 9th. This is a time when we express our love through practical means and gestures--running errands, doing detail work, or just being there for our lovers. Love needs to make sense and have a purpose with Venus in Virgo. Virgo is an Earth sign, which is sensual but also quite practical. Besides our romantic natures, what we decide to buy and the types of entertainment we enjoy during this cycle is ruled by whether or not things make sense. We could easily feel guilty if we are too self-indulgent at this time. Rendering services to others can fill a need, and can be an expression of love. The shadow side of this position is being overly critical of our partners, picky, or worrisome.

Mars in Cancer from June 24-August 8. We pursue our interests ardently, but we avoid a direct approach to going after we want. As well, our goals and plans are subject to mood swings and vacillations. We are defensive rather than overtly aggressive. Much of what we do depends on our mood of the moment.

Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015 to December 20, 2017. Saturn re-enters Scorpio on June 14 and continues to transit Scorpio until September 17, 2015. Read about Saturn's transit through Sagittarius here. Read about Saturn's transit through Scorpio here.

Jupiter entered Leo on July 16th, where it will transit until August 11th, 2015. Read about Jupiter's transit through Leo here. Jupiter will transit Virgo from August 11, 2015 to September 9, 2016.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Venus is retrograde from July 25 to September 6, 2015.

Where is Venus Retrograde transiting by house in your natal chart? Does it conjunct a natal planet, your Ascendant, or Midheaven? Read interpretations of Venus Retrograde in Transit for a more personalized meaning of this transit cycle.

As the planet of love and values, Venus retrograde periods are times when we re-assess what—and who—we value. It is a period that many astrologers consider inopportune for getting married or starting a major new relationship. Major financial undertakings are generally not advised during this period as well. Venus retrograde cycles are good times for creating budgets and financial plans, and for re-thinking our personal relationships.

Because Venus rules beauty and aesthetics, Venus Retrograde is a less than ideal time for beautification processes (new hairdos, enhancements, purchasing a new wardrobe, cosmetic surgery, and so forth), renovations, re-decorating, and the like. Because Venus is associated with social events, parties may not go as planned.

On the subject of love, past lovers may re-appear and some relationships may end. With Venus in Leo for much of its retrograde cycle, our needs for attention may be especially strong. We may question the romance factor in our current relationships. With Venus in Virgo for some of this retrograde cycle, the tendency to focus on flaws (and to criticize) may be strong.

Old friends and lovers may re-appear, perhaps complicating current relationships. We are called upon to deal with relationship issues from the past. Events occur that seem fated or pre-destined. It can be a real challenge getting close to a lover during this period of time. Unorthodox, experimental, and non-intimate relationships may be favored.

Affection is difficult to express in a natural or spontaneous manner. We might find others are lacking in sincerity or genuineness in their expressions of social niceties. (We may be inclined to do the same!).

Some of the more negative associations of Venus in Leo may be particularly prominent and/or hard to take, and these include egoism, buying affection, or haughtiness. Those who have Leo strong in their charts may be more introspective, distant, or hard to reach during this cycle. They may not be in as favorable light just for the time being.

Relationships that have been especially challenging may come to an end during this cycle. However, strong relationships will survive it, even if there are a few bumps and bruises along the way. For singles, this is a good time for "eyes wide open" or experimental dating. It is not a time when people recognize the need for another person to "complete" them, and some people may be questioning whether they are with partners who actually fulfill them. This period is good for re-evaluating our relationship needs; but major love decisions are best saved for after the cycle ends beyond September 6th, and perhaps beyond the shadow phase as well (after October 9th). Our perceptions may be skewed and we can come out of the retrograde cycle with regret if we have acted hastily, as the tendency to change our minds later is strong.

On the subject of money, finances, and possessions, do try to hold off on major purchases or financial decisions during this Venus retrograde cycle. For example, the purchase of a new house, car, or other big-ticket item could backfire in some manner later on. They may become money pits or cause problems for you; or you may change your mind later and regret your purchase. More on Venus Retrograde here.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Virgo from July 18-31. Venus enters its pre-retrograde shadow on June 21st, will be retrograde from July 25th to September 6th, and will move through its post-retrograde shadow until October 9th. This is a time when we express our love through practical means and gestures--running errands, doing detail work, or just "being there" for our lovers. Essentially, we fuss over our partners, sometimes a little too much! Our availability and accessibility is a sign of love. Love needs to make sense and have a purpose with Venus in Virgo. Virgo is an Earth sign, which is sensual but also quite practical. We could easily feel guilty if we are too self-indulgent during this cycle. We can be a little shy and prone to worry. We pick up on many different cues, attempting to analyze every detail of our lovers' reactions and responses. We could worry ourselves sick agonizing over details! In the process, we can miss out on the bigger and perhaps more meaningful cues. As well, Virgo is a sign that can live very much in the mind in the middle of an experience, failing to enjoy the moment. Self-consciousness can get in the way of enjoyment. Rendering services to others can fill a need, and can be an expression of love. The shadow side of this position is being overly critical of our partners, picky, or worrisome.

This week: Venus doesn't form any major aspects with major points this week. Venus turns retrograde on the 25th. Particularly around the station, from approximately the 23-26, watch for fuzziness when it comes to feelings, tastes, and desires/wants. If possible avoid making important decisions during that window.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Virgo July 18-31. If it makes sense you love it, and if it doesn't you feel guilty about it: that's what it's like now. A loving attention to details and a sense of satisfaction in doing what is right (especially with respect to your health) are some of the qualities that come to the fore at a time like this.
Venus semi-square Mars July 14-15. Tensions in relationships. Attempting to satisfy romantic needs and assertive/sexual needs simultaneously can be challenging.
Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto July 14-15. Tendencies to look for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousy raises its ugly head.
Venus semi-square Mercury July 15. Communications between lovers are superficial and unsatisfying, and perhaps awkward. Superficiality in romantic expression may exist now.
Venus parallel Uranus July 25-27. We embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit. Peculiar, sudden, or avant garde attractions. This is an exciting but unstable energy. Friendship in love relationships becomes more important.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Tuesday, July 21st, from 6:08 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Libra at 9:24 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Thursday, July 23rd, from 2:14 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 10:09 PM EDT.

This Week's Calendar

This Week's Aspects

Mercury trine Chiron. This is an excellent period for opening up communications with others, as we are more sensitive than usual and more willing to listen. Getting our point across is easier, as it's not only about which words we choose to communicate, we intuitively express the meaning and intention behind the words. We can effectively use words to heal and comfort just now. We are also more open to new ways of looking at problems or at life in general.

MercurySesquiquadrateNeptune Mercury sesquiquadrate Neptune. We are not thinking clearly, preferring to daydream. Technical facts can be glossed over at this time. It's not a good time to make a presentation, to ask for what you want, or to formalize agreements.

Saturn Sun trine Saturn. We feel grounded and stable. It's easy to stick to a specific task and make headway. Productivity may be slow, but it's steady. We have common sense at our disposal. We are willing to look reality in the eye and to take responsibility for our lives.

MercurytrineSaturn Mercury trine Saturn. Clear, realistic thinking characterizes this influence. A good time to get organized, to do detail work, and to prepare for the future. Decisions made now tend to be practical and well thought out. Work done now is likely to beget tangible results in the future. Conversations may be spare but to the point. Manifestation and achievement are what satisfy.

MercuryconjunctSun Mercury conjunct Sun. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It's a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse!

MarssquareUranus Mars square Uranus. We have a tendency to take risks, to feel restless, and to act on sudden impulses without considering consequences. We assert our wills and individuality powerfully, and we are willing to fight for freedom. We might feel rebellious in the face of rules and regulations, particularly those we might feel are outdated, or anything that requires us to conform. There may be changes in work schedules, or life's circumstances could challenge us in such a way that we need to change our goals or actions. Energy is stop and go, and it can be hard to focus on only one activity.

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)

JULY 19
The Moon is in earthy, discriminating Virgo all day, and our basic instinct is to organize and re-organize. We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. We're more inclined to pull up our sleeves and get down to work. We crave organization and practicality, and we want to get things accomplished. Being useful satisfies a deep need. This morning, Virgo's ruler, Mercury, forms a trine with Chiron, making it a strong time for opening up communications with others, as we are more sensitive and attentive than usual. Getting our point across is easier, as it's not only about which words we choose to communicate, we intuitively express the meaning and intention behind the words. We can effectively use words to heal and comfort. We are also quite open to new ways of looking at problems or at life in general.

JULY 20
The Moon is in organized, service-oriented Virgo all day. We are more inclined to take note of the details of our everyday life under the influence of a Virgo Moon. This can cause us to fret, or it can motivate us to solve important problems. While the Virgo Moon favors logic and clarity, Virgo's ruler, Mercury, forms a difficult angle with Neptune today. Under this aspect, technical facts can be glossed over and concentration can be poor, particularly as it relates to facts and figures. The tendency to daydream can be high, and often at the expense of productivity and clear communication.

JULY 21
This morning, the Sun forms a trine with Saturn. We feel grounded and stable under this influence, making it a good time to lean out the areas of life where we've been excessive or have too much going on. It's easy to stick to a specific task and make headway. Productivity may be slow, but it's steady. We have common sense at our disposal. We are willing to look reality in the eye and to take responsibility for our lives. This can be a time of humbling ourselves to good advice or to tried and true methods. The Moon continues its transit of Virgo until 9:24 AM EDT, harmonizing with the Sun and Saturn before entering Libra. The Moon in Libra brings our attention to relationships, balance, and harmony.

A void of course Moon occurs from 6:08 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Libra at 9:24 AM EDT.

JULY 22
The Moon is in Libra all day. Mercury forms a trine with Saturn today. Clear, realistic thinking characterizes this influence, making it a good time to get organized, do detail work, and prepare for the future. Decisions made now tend to be practical and well thought out. Work done now can lead to tangible results in the future. Conversations may be spare but to the point. Manifestation and achievement are what satisfy most. The Sun enters Leo, where it will transit until August 23rd. In Leo, the Sun is proud, outgoing, and playful. The Leo Sun is intensely individual, not content with simply being just one of the team. It's time to shine, add a touch of color and drama to our lives, and perform. Like the flowers and fruit of the season, blossoming and ripened, this is a time when we want to enjoy ourselves and express ourselves. We are more generous and grand in our gestures and attitudes. On the shadow side, we can also be self-centered and vain.

JULY 23
Mercury enters Leo today, where it will transit until August 7th. When Mercury is in Leo, our thinking is more confident and grand. The focus is now on the goal--and the grander the goal the better! The details may not be quite as important now. We are more expressive, even theatrical and given to speech-giving and story-telling under this influence. We are also more convincing and persuasive, as we exude confidence when we speak or write. We may not listen as well as we normally do. The Sun entered Leo last night, and today, the Sun and Mercury align in the first degree of Leo. This is a superior conjunction of Mercury and the Sun, and can stimulate an epiphany, illumination of a matter, or a clearing of the air. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It's a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse!

A void of course Moon occurs from 2:14 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 10:09 PM EDT.

JULY 24
The Moon is in Scorpio all day, and we are drawn to mysteries, complexities, and complications. The Moon's trine to Neptune tonight encourages creative imagining. Venus is nearing its retrograde station, which is exact tomorrow morning. Venus will station and turn retrograde in the first degree of the sign Virgo. By July 31st, Venus will have moved back into the sign of Leo, where it will spend time for the remainder of its retrograde cycle that lasts until September 6th. Tricky energy is with us around the station itself, as the shift occurs, so that today, we may be seeing the world and our own desires a little differently. There can be some crossed wires between one another as a result.

JULY 25
Venus stations and turns retrograde this morning. This occurs before it even completes the first degree of Virgo. By the 31st, Venus will have re-entered the sign of Leo where it will transit for the remainder of the retrograde cycle, which lasts until September 6th. Venus-ruled endeavors, such as finances and romance, may become heavy issues; and major decision-making in these areas is best avoided for the time being. This is a cycle in which we review, re-evaluate, and re-assess our love life, personal finances, and the manner in which we receive, reveal, and express our affections. Thoughts turn to the past so that we can lay to rest unhealthy habits in these areas of life. We are able to get into better touch with our values and needs. With the shift today and Uranus also approaching a retrograde station, our perceptions can be a little skewed. Mars squares Uranus this morning, and we can be too quick to act on sudden desires or to rebel if we feel at all confined or restrained. The Moon is in Scorpio all day.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Virgo

MoonVirgoWe instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.

The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.

When the Moon is in Libra

MoonLibraCreating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.

The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.

When the Moon is in Scorpio

MoonScorpioIntensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.

The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Cancer Being more in touch with your emotional roots is a keynote of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. This has to do with feelings, but it's more than that: it's about making the things you feel and care about a reality. At some levels, this means a greater focus on family life - parents, children, relatives, the whole domestic scene. On a somewhat broader scale, you're likely to find that houses and other real property take on greater significance for you. Nurturing is where it's at in your life now: making things grow and taking care of them, planting seeds that will develop and survive far into the future - that's what it's all about.

Sun in Leo "This I do for me" is your motto at a time like this. This is your time to shine, like a swirl of starstuff that has finally reached critical mass and suddenly starts to give off more light than it receives. Issues of pride, mastery, and appreciation become more and more central to your lifestream as this cycle progresses, as does a very important lesson: it's not what you do so much as how you do it, not who you are so much as how you make others feel about themselves. If it doesn't come from the heart, it shouldn't matter now.

Mercury in Cancer Gut-level is the way you think, speak, and perceive in the cycle you have just begun. You aren't interested in the superficial; instead, you want to get right to the root of things. You don't care about the universal, only about how things impact you and yours. Intellect and emotion mix to the point of inseparability.

Mercury in Leo The hallmark of the cycle you have just begun is thinking, learning and communicating with style. Intellectual creativity is highlighted, and your social connections have a certain flair of drama to them. Winning the admiration of others for the things you say or write (and the way you do it) takes on more importance in your life.

Venus in Virgo If it makes sense you love it, and if it doesn't you feel guilty about it: that's what it's like now. A loving attention to details and a sense of satisfaction in doing what is right (especially with respect to your health) are some of the qualities that come to the fore at a time like this.

Mars in Cancer Defensive, aren't we? With this new cycle getting underway, protecting and preserving you and yours takes on a higher than usual priority. A sensitivity to the needs and wants of others and an appreciation for their frailties (as well as your own) makes you more cautious and conservative ... you pick your battles with care.

Jupiter in Leo High drama, big romance, a creative bonanza: this is the stuff dreams are made of now. The world is your stage, the spotlight is your goal, and the love and appreciation of others is the air you breathe. Children, lovers, admirers: these are the people who figure large in your life as this cycle progresses. A willingness to gamble on the future.

Saturn in Scorpio This new cycle signals a need to recognize that there are powers beyond your control, that things are not what they seem on the surface. Trying to stay in control and on top only sets you up for a fall. There is a need for the resources of others. Failure to recognize this and deal with it can stop you in your tracks.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...
