A LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Friday, April 29th, 2016, at 11:29 PM EDT.

Late Friday, a Last Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Taurus forms a square with the Moon in Aquarius. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week's Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us--and what doesn't--in preparation for next week's New Moon, when something new is born once again. This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It's time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?

This phase of the Moon occurs at 10 degrees and 13 minutes of Aquarius forming a square with the Sun at 10 degrees and 13 minutes of Taurus, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 0 to 6 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)

The Sun is in Taurus; Mercury is in Taurus; Venus is in Aries until the 29th, when it enters Taurus; Mars is in Sagittarius.

The Sun is in Taurus from April 19-May 20. In Taurus, the Sun is methodical, sensual, and receptive. The Sun in Taurus is most active when it is defending or resisting things! As the Sun moves through Taurus when plants take root, our determination and security needs are strong. Taurus is loyal to all that is familiar, and values longevity. The shadow side of Taurus is possessiveness and bullheadedness.

Mercury is in Taurus from April 5-June 12. When Mercury is in Taurus, our thinking is down to earth, solid, and grounded. Common sense reigns over more fanciful thinking. We communicate more deliberately under this influence, and our minds are oriented to the world of the five senses. We prefer the tried and true rather than new ways of thinking. Attention to one thing at a time can simplify our lives, but we may be in danger of narrow, overly conservative, or rigid thinking.

Venus is in Aries from April 5-29. In Aries, love is spontaneous and direct. The chase is very exciting to us under this fiery influence. We are bold, fresh, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We don't look back with Aries energy. We are not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past. It's a brand new day! It's time to make things work right now. Aries is known for a love of the chase and the conquest, but Aries love can be longstanding as long as it remains relatively fresh. Aries is blunt--there's no sugar-coating with Aries. This can sting, but rarely is Aries energy mean or petty. Saying it like it is is important to Aries. Desires are strong and expressed spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Aries prefers to seduce rather than be seduced, to chase rather than be chased.

Venus is in Taurus from April 30-May 24. In Taurus, Venus is very sensual (naturally), content, and possessive. We seek security and value that which lasts. Our appetite for pleasure is strong. Taurus values the here and the now as well as the world of the five senses. Tangible and physical expressions of love and romance are most important now. Holding on to someone we love is our tendency under Venus in Taurus. The shadow side of this is excessive possessiveness and treating our partners as objects that we own or want to own. On the financial side, Venus in Taurus looks for high-quality, solid, practical, and long-lasting items. Holding on to our possessions is more likely now.

Mars in Sagittarius from March 5-May 27. With a Sagittarius Mars, our actions are motivated by our ideals. We are bothered by routine, quickly becoming restless if we feel confined. We have a love of adventure, and of conquest--this is the position of wanderlust. We start projects or challenges with gusto, although we may tend to abandon them rather quickly. This may be because we set our sights too high!

Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015 to December 20, 2017. Read about Saturn's transit through Sagittarius here.

Jupiter entered Virgo on August 11th, and will transit Virgo until September 9, 2016. Read about Jupiter in Virgo here.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Mercury Retrograde

Mercury is Retrograde in the sign of Taurus from April 28-May 22, 2016.
Mercury turns retrograde this week on April 28th.

07 Jun 2016 01:48 pm 23 Taurus 36' Mercury Leaves Rx Zone

Times are Eastern

Mercury is retrograde from April 28-May 22, 2016. Mercury's shadow period begins April 14th and ends June 7th, 2016. Note that the shadow period begins before Mercury turns retrograde, when Mercury first passes over the degree that Mercury later returns to in retrograde motion.

The shadow period ends when Mercury again passes over the degree at which it first turned retrograde. The shadow period is different than Mercury's storm period in astrology, which refers to the period when Mercury is moving especially slowly.

As the planet of communication, Mercury retrograde tends to breed a certain level of confusion. Mercury rules our "lower" mind--how we perceive and interpret information that we receive from our environment, and how we relay that information to others. Mercury has rulership over such things as speaking, negotiating, buying and selling, listening, formal contracts, documents, travel, the mail and shipping, and so forth. All of these areas of life are affected when Mercury is functioning in a sluggish state. Decision-making is challenged during Mercury retrograde. Needless to say, it is not advised to sign contracts, engage in important decision-making, or launch a new business. Delays and challenges are more probable with Mercury retrograde. It's a time when being careless with money, our personal information, or paperwork can be costly.

There is absolutely a positive side to Mercury Retrograde. This period is best used for re-organizing and reflecting. We look at the world a little differently--through different filters--and can come up with some very important inner revelations. It may be difficult to communicate them under this influence, but not everything needs to be rationalized. Mercury retrograde periods can be times of heightened inner awareness, when meditation, benefiting from keeping a journal, reworking old plans, and reviewing past work are favored. Minor breaks in the mechanical aspects of communication can actually re-connect us to other means of communication, such as when there is an unexpected power outage and we're forced off the computer and television, finding different and often satisfying ways to entertain ourselves.

It is important to note that there is absolutely no reason to suspend projects or anything of the sort during the Mercury Retrograde cycle. It's not an ideal time to start new ones or to sign contracts, simply because a change of mind is very possible once Mercury turns direct. However, it's a fabulous time to do some "outside of the box" thinking. Acting on our ideas, however, might be best left for a Mercury Direct period.

Pay close attention to what you say and communicate in general, particularly around the days of Mercury's stations (April 28th and May 22nd), as well as around retrograde Mercury's conjunction to the Sun on May 9th (midway between the start and end of the retro period). If you are itching to make a point with someone, especially, or if you are planning on "signing on the dotted line", try to hold off. It is likely that you will have a change of mind once the station passes, and you can do some damage in the meantime. When a planet stations, its energies are very strong in our lives. When Mercury stations, communications have more impact, so that negative ones could have long-term implications at this time. However, if you are very clear within yourself and about what you are communicating, this can be a positive thing. Read more about Mercury retrograde.

Romance & Relationships

Venus
is in Aries from April 5-29.

Venus is in Taurus from April 29-May 24. In Taurus, Venus is usually quite content, but can be possessive.

This week: On Sunday, a Venus-Mars challenge can stir the pot, but we are also under the influence of a Venus-Jupiter-Uranus parallel which inclines us to take the high road, open ourselves up to new possibilities, and keep growth and discovery as priorities. Later this week, Venus is in minor challenging aspect with Neptune, Jupiter, and Saturn, and we can be wrestling with our expectations of others and of relationships.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Aries April 5-29. Romance at the drop of a hat is part and parcel of the cycle you have just begun. Winning the hearts of others can be a challenge you're eager to accept - and the thrill of the chase might be most of the fun. Is it the pursuit of happiness - or the happiness of pursuit?
Venus in Taurus April 29-May 24. A love of music, an appreciation for sensual pleasures and others of the finer things in life - such are the signs of the cycle which has begun for you. This is aesthetic and artistic to be sure, but it is also practical and materialistic: you develop a keen appreciation for the value of things, including the money it takes to buy them.
Venus conjunct Uranus April 22. We have a taste for the unusual and the avant garde. We are itching for a change. What makes a person unique is more attractive under this influence. Excitement and newness are valued over permanence in social relationships. Freedom is more important than intimacy just now. We lose our fears of taking risks in love and social situations. Romantic infatuations, gossip, unanticipated opportunities socially or financially. We have a greater need for self-expression, personal freedom, and social excitement.
Venus parallel Jupiter April 23-24. We are charitable with others and have a stronger desire than usual to find meaning in our relationships. There may be some overstating or overindulgence now, however.
Venus sesquiquadrate Mars April 24. Tensions in relationships. Attempting to satisfy romantic needs and assertive/sexual needs simultaneously can be challenging.
Venus semi-square Neptune April 26. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.
Venus sesquiquadrate Jupiter April 28. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships.
Venus sesquiquadrate Saturn April 29-30. Feelings of isolation, of not getting what we really want, and of not being loved the way we want to be loved can get in the way of pleasant relations with our partners.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon Saturday, April 23rd, from 5:47 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Mercury), until the Moon enters Sagittarius the next day, Sunday, April 24th, at 8:47 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Tuesday, April 26th, from 11:52 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Venus), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 7:55 PM EDT.

VOC Moon on Friday, April 29th, from 3:08 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 4:47 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Saturday, April 30th, from 10:56 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mercury), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Sunday, May 1st, at 10:34 AM EDT.

This Week's Calendar

This Week's Aspects

VenussesquiquadrateMars Venus sesquiquadrate Mars. Potential tensions in relationships. Attempting to satisfy romantic needs and assertive/sexual needs simultaneously can be challenging. Be wary of making impulse purchases. There is an air of competitiveness under this influence, which need not be difficult. It can be stimulating and invigorating.

VenusSemi-squareNeptune Venus semi-square Neptune. Happiness is addictive under this influence. We tend to see what we want to see. Glossing over the more realistic points, details, and flaws of circumstances and of people provides us with instant gratification. However, it's wise to hold off on making important purchases, or natalizing a relationship until the veil lifts. Take care with legal, financial, and social involvements, contracts, or formal agreements under this dreamy influence.

SunQuincunxMars Sun quincunx Mars. A tendency to fly off the handle easily characterizes this transit, due to inner tension between the will and performance. It's hard to find satisfaction or a sense of peace at this time. We may feel decidedly "out of sorts".

SunSemi-squareChiron Sun semi-square Chiron. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong, but may be hampered by a lack of confidence or a fear of being different.

VenussesquiquadrateJupiter Venus sesquiquadrate Jupiter. We might take great strides to get noticed. Avoid impulsive buying. Problems in our personal life likely won't get resolved under this influence. Avoid hasty (or haughty!) decisions. We might overstate our feelings or promise more than we can deliver, and the tendency to overdo is strong.

VenussesquiquadrateSaturn Venus sesquiquadrate Saturn. There may be difficulties relating to others under this influence. People may be cool with their affections and emotionally distant. Avoid new financial undertakings, as they may prove to be "money pits" as time passes. There may be anxiety or troubles with regards to matters concerned with the feelings. Romantic disappointments, unrequited love, separations, and broken engagements are the more negative manifestations. We tend to lack social confidence at this time and adopt a shy, formal, or reserved social manner. This transit is best used for reflection.

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)

APRIL 24
The Moon continues its transit of Scorpio until 8:47 AM EDT, when it enters Sagittarius. With Venus in dynamic aspect to Mars today, there are potential tensions in relationships. Attempting to satisfy romantic needs and assertive/sexual needs simultaneously can be challenging. Be wary of making impulse purchases. There is an air of competitiveness under this influence, which need not be difficult. It can be stimulating and invigorating. With Venus, Jupiter, and Uranus parallel to one another today, the Venus-Mars aspect can create just enough tension to make some waves and motivation to do something with our creative, innovative ideas.

The Moon ends its void period when it enters Sagittarius at 8:47 AM EDT.

APRIL 25
The Moon is in Sagittarius all day, stimulating our spontaneous and curious side. We are attracted to new situations of conquest or adventure, and require less prompting than usual to get moving and to experience life. Bored with the mundane, anything that breaks the routine is appealing now. With the Moon squaring Jupiter and Neptune, and then aligning with Saturn, we may be wrestling with expectations. Overdoing or overstating may be a symptom of inner restlessness and a desire to attach more meaning to our lives.

APRIL 26
This week in many ways is one of adjustments, particularly of our expectations, and tonight's Venus semi-square Neptune influence suggests a need to reorient ourselves in terms of what we might or should expect from our relationships. Happiness is addictive under this influence. We tend to see what we want to see. Glossing over the more realistic points, details, and flaws of circumstances and of people provides us with instant gratification. However, it's wise to hold off on making important purchases, or natalizing a relationship until the veil lifts. Be a little more cautious than usual with commitments and agreements under this dreamy influence. The Moon continues its transit of Sagittarius until 7:55 PM EDT, when it enters Capricorn.

A void of course Moon occurs from 11:52 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Venus), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 7:55 PM EDT.

APRIL 27
With the Sun forming a quincunx with retrograde Mars, there can be some inner tension between the will and performance, and a tendency to fly off the handle easily can be with us now. It's hard to find satisfaction or a sense of peace at this time. We may feel decidedly "out of sorts" and on the fence about key issues. There can be some inner tension revolving around going after what we want - how to approach it is not clear. Tomorrow, Mercury stations retrograde, and as we approach the station, there can be some confused perceptions. The Moon is in earthy Capricorn all day. Its trine to Jupiter in Virgo is helpful, gently stimulating our ambition.

APRIL 28
This is not an ideal day for clear decision making. A semi-square between the Sun and Chiron can undermine our confidence as we may fear being different or doubt ourselves. Venus in dynamic aspect with Jupiter can serve to exaggerate our feelings, wants, and perceived needs. We might overstate our feelings or promise more than we can deliver, and the tendency to overdo is strong. As well, cloudy thinking or confusion can figure strongly today with Mercury moving to a station and turning retrograde. Communication can be tricky, and it can be hard to focus on cold, hard facts, especially if we have been fuzzy in recent days. Mercury will remain retrograde until May 22nd. During this time, our thinking is turned inward, as we review and re-assess matters. Mercury retrograde periods can be times of heightened inner awareness, when meditation, benefiting from keeping a journal, reworking old plans, and reviewing past work are favored. Minor breaks in the mechanical aspects of communication can actually re-connect us to other, possibly more meaningful, means of communication. The more difficult times are the periods of the shifts themselves -  near the stations, after which we grow more and more accustomed.

APRIL 29
The Moon continues its transit of Capricorn until 4:47 AM EDT, when it enters Aquarius. Under the influence of an Aquarius Moon, we have an emotional need for freedom and independence. We thrive on intellectual stimulation, change, and unusual or unconventional experiences. Venus enters Taurus today, where it will transit until May 24th. In Taurus, Venus is usually quite content, but can be possessive. We seek security and value that which lasts. Our appetite for pleasure is strong. Taurus values the here and the now as well as the world of the five senses. Tangible and physical expressions of love and romance are most important now. Holding on to someone we love, and/or the things we love, is our tendency under Venus in Taurus. A Last Quarter Moon is towards the end of the day, when the Sun in Taurus forms a square with the Moon in Aquarius.

A void of course Moon occurs from 3:08 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 4:47 AM EDT.

APRIL 30
A difficult aspect between Venus and Saturn this morning can point to some holding back in our interactions. There can be coolness with our affections, and possible anxiety on social or financial levels. Things aren't flowing very naturally. The Moon is in Aquarius all day, and we are attracted to the unusual, extraordinary, and unconventional. Independence, equality, and freedom are vital to feeling emotionally satisfied with this position of the Moon. As the day advances, we tend to open our minds and our faith increases. We can more readily tap into our imaginations.

A void of course Moon occurs from 10:56 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mercury), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Sunday, May 1st, at 10:34 AM EDT.

When the Moon is in Scorpio

MoonScorpioIntensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.

The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.

We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".

However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.

This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Taurus The cycle now dawning in your life emphasizes stability, substance, practicality, and the concept of value - value in the material as well as psycho-spiritual sense. This marks a time of building to last, of appreciating the substantial rather than ephemeral. Consolidating past gains rather than focusing on radical new departures is likely to be a major theme for you during this cycle. Appreciating the finer things of life is another hallmark of this phase, which marks a time when you should be concentrating on "smelling the roses" rather than passing them by in such a hurry.

Mercury in Taurus "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" - that's the key to the way you think at a time like this. Practical, utilitarian ideas are the ones that make the most sense now - putting them to good use is a focus for you. Material things are foremost on your mind in many respects: an emphasis on the real rather than the ideal.

Venus in Aries Romance at the drop of a hat is part and parcel of the cycle you have just begun. Winning the hearts of others can be a challenge you're eager to accept - and the thrill of the chase might be most of the fun. Is it the pursuit of happiness - or the happiness of pursuit?

Venus in Taurus A love of music, an appreciation for sensual pleasures and others of the finer things in life - such are the signs of the cycle which has begun for you. This is aesthetic and artistic to be sure, but it is also practical and materialistic: you develop a keen appreciation for the value of things, including the money it takes to buy them.

Mars in Sagittarius Ideology is a keynote of the new phase you have begun - the power of ideas and the power they wield over people. Religious, cultural, or philosophical controversies and crusades have a way of stirring your blood. Travel and adventure are compelling temptations as you dare to test your mettle and stretch your horizons.

Jupiter in Virgo "To serve and protect" is the motto that best fits the cycle that now dawns in your life. Taking better care of such material concerns as work and health becomes an article of faith. You see the big picture where these things are concerned and realize that it can only come together when all the details are in place. Sometimes, in trying to get these details all lined up, you might lose sight of your objective. Remember: Look beyond the trees to see the forest.

Saturn in Sagittarius The new phase now beginning in your life brings a need to break out of narrow concepts and legalistic philosophical or religious ideas. Remember: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds." Opportunities to broaden your mental horizons may not come with ease, but they are essential if you are to avoid a kind of spiritual stagnation.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...
